Profile

Fuxi as seen in 古今图书集成 Gujin Tushu Jicheng, Qing dynasty

Origin

Fuxi[a] is a creature mentioned in the Classic of Mountains and Seas,[b] said to live in the Liutai Mountains.[c] It has a human face, but the body of a rooster. The name, similar to Bifang, is said to be derived from its call.[d] When seen, war is said to be imminent.[1]

Design

Fuxi's design matches the description seen in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, with the sword it carries likely being derived from its wartime connotations.

Origin: China
An ominous Chinese bird on Mt. Taishan. It has a body similar to a rooster's and a man's face. It's said that when a Fuxi appears, war will soon break out. It's also said that its name stems from what its cry sounds like.

Shin Megami Tensei IV

An ominous bird of Chinese lore. Its name is derived from the sound it makes when it cries. Note it has no relation to Fu Xi the emperor/god, which is spelled differently in Chinese.

It appears in the Xishan Jing chapter of the book Shan Hai Jing. It has the body of a rooster and the head of a human with a cockscomb and pointed ears. The appearance of a Fuxi is a bad omen, a sign that war is about to break out.
