Backbeard alongside the other bosses in Jack Bros., being sat on by Beelzebub.

Backbeard is called Spider Orb in Jack Bros.

Backbeard appears as the fourth boss of the game, on Floor 10 of Dragon's Belly and Floor 25 overall. He flies around the screen with six short arms, shooting pieces of them at you as he goes. Periodically, he will angle diagonally in the corner to shoot an eye beam in a semi-circular motion before shielding his eye with his arms and spin around once.

Pixie says the following before dropping to his floor:

Spider Orb is your next opponent. He has 6arms^[sic] and shoots a beam from his eye. If the beam hits you, you'll be temporarily paralyzed.

Backbeard appears in Jack the Ripper's ending, where he is stood on by Beelzebub as he curses the Jack Brothers, vowing to get them next year.

Trivia

• Backbeard's design from Shin Megami Tensei is used as the basis for the design of Ichimokuren in Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army.
