Naamah is a Demon in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

Profile

Origin

Naamah, also written as Na'amah, is a demon from Jewish mythology whose name means "pleasant" in Hebrew and is known as the mother of demons. She is said to have seduced Adam alongside Lilith and bore many demonic offspring, as well as corrupted the angels Azazel and Ouza.

Design

Naamah was designed by Masayuki Doi for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. As there are scant descriptions of Naamah, Doi focused on her nature as a seductress of the human, holy and demonic in a way that would make her attractive by these varying standards which resulted in making her split between a beautiful woman and a monstrous demon.[3] This duality motif manifests throughout Naamah's design. She has one arm and leg that is demonic and human, with the left arm and right leg art thin and warped sharp points and coloured black with sharp points and golden accents, while her right arm and left leg are pale human wearing fishnet stockings. Her body is split by a thin waist similarly black with golden accents while her chest and waist are humanoid and pale. Her face is split in half, with the right side being a beautiful blond woman with blue eyes and red lips and the left side being blackened and skeletal with bared teeth and a red eye. As with all members of the Qadištu she has a pair of angelic black wings.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Naamah: One of the four female demons in the Zohar, a spiritual text of Jewish mystical thought. Her name means "pleasure" in Hebrew.

She is the most carnal of the four demons, and specializes in seduction. She is said to have intercourse with human men in their dreams and to give birth to numerous evil spirits, almost solely driven by her own desires. Her beauty bewitches even angels, and she birthed the demon king Asmodeus with an angel named Shomron. It is believed she was originally a human female, sister of Tubal-cain (a descendant of the Old Testament's Cain), and only later was she interpreted as a demon.

Naamah's Shadow: Apparition of the demoness Naamah, summoned by Samael. In Jewish mysticism, the four demons Lilith, Naamah, Eisheth, and Agrat are considered to be Samael's personal companions.

Naamah is the first member of the Qadištu encountered by the Nahobino and Yoko Hiromine, interupting their journey to the Tokyo Diet Building by killing an Angel in their path. Noticing the pair and expressing surprise at humans being in Da'at, she pulls them into the Serpent's Grave and explains that it is a holy ground for the Qadištu where they offer sacrifices to the Mother Goddess, before attacking them with intention to use them as sacrifices. Upon her defeat he is surprised by the strength of her opponents and banishes them from the Serpent's Grave before the other members of the Qadištu appear with Lilith commenting that they have found the key to the resurrection.

Naamah is next encountered in Shinagawa Station with Glasya-Labolas slaughtering the humans and collecting their magatsuhi. The protagonist steps up to fight them, only to not transform as Aogami is not present. Amused Naamah orders Glasya-Labolas to kill him, only for Aogami to arrive and allow them to transform into their Nahobino form, shocking Naamah that the student and the Nahobino that bested her are the same being before challenging him again this time with Glasya-Labolas at her side. They are defeated once again, with Glasya-Labolas being killed, however sensing Shohei Yakumo approaching Naamah retreats rather than face him.
