Ami tells Jin and Akira that they are the reincarnations of Valhalla's creators, the Son of Light and Prince of Dark, making them Devil Children. During a sudden fight against Gargoyles, the boys are joined by Rand and Gale and equipped with Demon-summoning Devilisers. Jin and Akira are provided a Time Key and Time Chain by Ami, items which when activated can control the chronology of Valhalla. Ami believes that by awakening to their powers, the boys can command the Time Chain, and rewrite history to bring Valhalla back to an era of peace. A horde of Behemoths attack the group and kidnap Ami, after which she learns their ruler Azrael seeks to use the Time Chain. Jin and Akira find Ami and fight the Behemoths; although Rena is reluctant to join, instead wanting to return to the human world, she helps by scanning the Demons' weak points with her Vinecom. Unfortunately, a Behemoth's misfire hits Ami's Time Key, causing the Time Chain to scatter across the world. As the group embark on their journey to find the chain pieces, Emperor Azrael, from his throne, eagerly wonders how they intent to rewrite history.

Meanwhile, Jin, Rand, and Gale manage to sneak out of prison and take Jin's Deviliser back from the Barbatos's boss, but nearly fall from the fortress's roof. As the team proceed to Flower Town, where a Time Chain piece is supposedly located, a Demon of the Imperial Army named Harborim commences a pursuit against them. Meanwhile, Rena bickers with Jin about being dragged into this journey against her will, and that unlike him and Akira, she is not a Devil Child. Finding a phony Time Chain along the way, the team are lead to a chain market, but their search is for naught. Returning to the market the next day, Harborim holds Rena hostage, revealing the market to have been a set-up. Jin and Akira manage to defeat Harborim and claim his ring, which turns out to be a piece of the Time Chain.

When a Time Chain piece is detected across the sea, the team arrive at a port town, where a man named Zabel explains that an undersea tunnel is being dug. However, the volcanic terrain makes the tunnels hard to cross. A squadron of Balor then sail in, to which the team plan to sneak onto their ship in order to reach the neighboring continent. Jin and Rand's covers are blown, resulting in their persecution by the Balor squadron. Retreating to the undersea tunnel, they encounter Zabel and the ice Demon Issitoq, offering to help him drill to the other continent. Zabel is content on drilling, despite being under volcanic terrain; his ill daughter died after the Balors denied them access to a ship, as the closest hospital was overseas. Regaining his confidence from Jin, Zabel and Issitoq resume drilling and emerge on the other continent, reuniting Jin with Akira and the others. Rand and Gale defeat the Balors, to the villagers' delight, and Issitoq parts ways with Zabel.

While struck with hunger, the group proceed to a pillar of smoke where a village may be. Along the way, they find Issitoq basking in a green light conjured by a dragon. Jin presumes the dragon to be a foe and punches it, revealing it to be a costume piloted by several Leprechauns, who quickly disband. Arriving at the village, Old Geppetto informs the group that the Leprechauns' light protected it from the Imperial Army. Feeling guilty for scaring them away earlier, Jin sets out to find the Leprechauns. Rena follows and falls into an sinkhole, while the Demon Anzu attacks the unprotected village. As Akira, Gale, and the villagers fight Anzu, the Leprechauns find Rena in the watery pit; Issitoq retrieves her Vinecom and goes searching with Jin and Rand. Before Rena succumbs to hypothermia, recalling a childhood memory wherein Jin saved her from drowning in a river, Jin and the Leprechauns hoist her up with a pulley mechanism. The group defeat Anzu, after which the Leprechauns envelop the village in light and vanish, confident the people will be safe from the Imperial Army.

A feud then breaks out between the village chief and his son, the latter leaving the village alongside his siblings and Issitoq. As for the group, they learn the Imperial Army built a floodgate that cuts off the village's water, which is managed by Garm. The team successfully fights off Garm with the help of the chief's son and Issitoq, bringing water back to the treetop village.

The group battle Daidarabotchi after he ravages an old couples' house. Following their victory, Jin rudely disregards Rena's contributions to the team, making her deeply upset. While visiting a carnival, Rena runs off and meets Mad Hatter, a stage-frightened Demon. Rena then attends Mad Hatter's magic show, but after it goes horribly, she visits him and watches him practice, reminding her of when she practiced baseball with little brother. Later on, Rena's frustration causes her to snap at Mad Hatter, to which he runs away, much like how Rena's brother did. During her search, she is captured by Daidarabotchi, until Mad Hatter comes to her rescue and makes amends. They work together to scare Daidara-bocchi off for good, and the next day, Mad Hatter performs his magic show perfectly.

Having difficulty locating the next time chain piece, the group run into Rangda and are directed to a village close by. Rena is suspicious of Rangda, but the Demon plays innocent. Suddenly, they are swarmed by a school of Skyfish, so Akira calls for Gale and Skuld to fight them. At the village, they visit a man holding a glowing tanuki statue, which Rangda believed was a chain piece. Rena and Skuld chastise Rangda for her mistake, causing her to cry. Overcome with a headache, Jin's head sprouts a flower because he ate a strange fruit earlier, making him gravely weak. Ami and Rena stay with him while the others search for a cure, running into the Skyfish along the way. Rangda and Skuld put their differences aside to defeat the enemy Demons, successfully finding an antidote to give to Jin. Just as Jin is rid of the flower on his head, a Gargoyle flies in and captures Ami.
