Deviliser

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Deviliser, short for Devil Riser Gun, is a recurring item in the Devil Children series. It is a tool that functions similarly to the Demon Summoning Program, allowing Devil Children and Angel Children to summon and command recruited Demons, and is often paired with a special COMP called a Vinecom. In the localization of Devil Children Light Book and Dark Book, it is known as a Demiloc.

During the games, the player will also receive a second Deviliser called the King Riser, known in the Light Book and Dark Book localization as the Kingloc.

Profile

In Devil Children Black Book and Red Book and Devil Children White Book, the basic Devilisers resemble revolver guns with six Memory Bullet (メモリーブレット Memorī Buretto) slots in the cylinder. A Memory Bullet contains the Devil Code (デビルコード Debiru Kōdo) of a single Demon ally. Setsuna Kai and Masaki Kuzuha's Devilisers are silver with a square barrel, while Takaharu Ougi's is teal. Mirai Kaname's is pink and has a more rounded shape. Either model has a pentagram symbol near the cylinder release.

In Devil Children Light Book and Dark Book and Devil Children Fire Book and Ice Book, the basic Devilisers are more high tech in design. Jin and Akira's Devilisers possess an identical dragon-like shape, sporting wing accessories and a face attachment near the muzzle. Jin's has a red and silver color scheme, while Akira's is blue and orange.

Gameplay

Arrange screen on Akira's Vinecom. The left column is for Demons loaded in the Deviliser, while the right is for the King Riser.

Throughout the series, the initial Deviliser summons one Demon ally to accompany the player's partner Demon in battle. The Deviliser can only hold Common, General, and Elite-Class Demons, whereas the King Riser can hold Demons of any Class but has limited capacity. In Devil Children Black Book and Red Book and Devil Children White Book, the player must set either the Deviliser or King Riser as their primary Riser. In Devil Children Light Book and Dark Book and Devil Children Fire Book and Ice Book, however, the King Riser does not need to be set, as it acts as a third party slot.

Demons are loaded into the Deviliser/King Riser on the Vinecom's Access (アクセス Akusesu) and Arrange (ならびかえ Narabikae) screens, and the first Demon that has not fainted in the list is the one that will be drawn first. If a Demon's HP hits 0, or the Call"Summon" in the Light Book and Dark Book localization (コール Kōru) action is chosen, the next Demon on that Riser's list will be swapped into battle.

In White Book and Light Book and Dark Book, the player can equip Power Units to either Riser for additional effects such as increased Demon storage, stat boosts in battle, or improved negotiation with specific Demon races. Each Power Unit also has a size, which must be accounted for when loading them into Risers. In Fire Book and Ice Book, Power Units are replaced by Cards.

Anime Appearances

DeviChil

Much like in the video games, the Deviliser in DeviChil is used to recruit and summon Demons. During either process, the user pulls their Deviliser's trigger while exclaiming "Call!" (コール Kōru), firing multicolored streams of light which shape a pentagram. In the case of recruitment, the befriended Demon enters the pentagram and is immediately transferred to Mirai's Vinecom, while during a summon, the Demon emerges from the pentagram.

D-Children: Light & Dark

The Deviliser in D-Children: Light & Dark works slightly differently from its video game counterpart. Jin and Akira use their Devilisers to Devil Charge (デビルチャージ Debiru Chāji) Rand and Gale, creating a shining pentagram that temporarily evolves them into their stronger forms. In battle, they can Devilise (デビライズ Debiraizu) enemies once they are in a weakened state and seal them away. Rena can also use the Vinecom to materialize cards of Demon allies, which when inserted into a Deviliser, summons the depicted Demons. When not in use, a Deviliser may be stored within an armlet as data. Should the wielder call upon their Deviliser, it will take shape in their hand.

Manga Appearances

Devil Children

Devilisers in the Devil Children manga serve their main function of calling allied Demons into battle. However, the King Riser is absent in this adaptation, with the basic Deviliser able to carry King-Class Demons. By utilizing the energy of summoning, Setsuna can fire the Deviliser like actual pistol, as seen in the fight against Hel in Ice Land.
