Epilogue

Long ago, people once inhabited the Fifth Planet. The people could wield the powers of Gaia, a supernatural power once reserved for the gods, with the most adept known as Gaia Masters. However, the fall of the Fifth Planet had forced the people to flee to Terra, the Third Planet from the sun. Soon after, a war broke out between the humans and Terra’s Beasts for control of the planet. In the end, neither side attained victory and the fighting left them decimated. The survivors stopped fighting each other and lived their lives struggling to survive.

2,000 years later, the King of Magoku receives a visit by Medoch of Breton. Medoch arrives bearing grave news: a child who is the reincarnation of Gryas, the King of Beasts who waged the war thousands of years ago, is prophesied to be born that day. Horrified, the King is left with no other choice but to order the killings of every child born that day.

Beginning

15 years later, Yūri prepares to head out of the forest on an errand. Yūri has lived with his adoptive mother Sol Leon and his brothers Cerberus and Orthrus in the forest since he was a baby. As many humans fear the Beasts, the family and the other Beasts have been forced into isolation. Sol Leon cautions Yūri to be careful as he leaves the forest and implores him to bring the spare equipment with him.

Yūri visits the nearby town of Ein where he meets Medea, the girlfriend of his long-time friend Larsa. Medea shows him the Pendant she got for Larsa’s birthday, adding that she intends to surprise him with it. Yūri finds Larsa speaking with his mother in their house. Larsa is bored of living a quiet life in town and wants to travel the world and test his Gaia, but his mother tries reasoning with him not to, arguing that there is nothing to be gained by leaving the town. Their conversation is interrupted when Larsa spots Yūri, who is surprised yet happy to see him again. Their reunion is kept brief as Larsa, undeterred, eagerly leaves to prepare for his journey.

Yūri visits Ein’s flower garden and meets a traveling pair Krau and Zodia. The pair leave soon after to resume their travels, yet Krau expresses her hope they will meet again sometime. As they leave, Larsa runs up to Yūri and tells him that Medea has birthday presents for them both. Medea presents the three matching Pendants she got for all of them, to commemorate their enduring friendship.

As Yūri prepares to return home, he overhears a pair of men complaining that their Mana had been stolen by Velg, a Beast living in a nearby cave. Larsa joins in and suggests that he and Yūri go defeat Velg, excited for the opportunity to test his Gaia power. Together the pair travel to the cave and defeat Velg, whereupon the Beast flees. The victory emboldens Larsa with pride in their strength. Afterwards, the pair return to Ein and find that soldiers from the Magoku kingdom have arrived to recruit volunteers into their army. Leading the soldiers is Medoch, who warns the townspeople that Gryas will soon be reborn and bring destruction upon the world. He implores them to join the Magoku army and fight back. Seeing another chance for them to grow stronger, Larsa readily volunteers himself and Yūri. Medoch accepts the pair and instructs them to head to the northern settlement where the rest of the Magoku soldiers are waiting.

Yūri and Larsa return to the forest and discover that the soldiers are attacking the Beasts. Sol Leon had also been captured and taken away. The pair fight off one of the soldiers in the forest cave, where Cerberus and Orthrus have been cornered. Their efforts drive away the soldiers and save the remaining Beasts, yet Sol Leon’s whereabouts remain unknown. Larsa acknowledges that Yūri will be heading to Magoku to find her. He decides to split up so they can each pursue their own reasons for heading to Magoku.

Back at Ein, Yūri meets Esau, a man who has been traveling to find the ancient “phantom metropolis” of Blantica to save his wife and son. Impressed by Yūri’s strength, he asks to accompany him on their way to Magoku. Together they head to the northern port and sail to Ruth Port.

Investigating Magoku

Traveling northeast of Ruth Port, the party locate the Pixie Village besieged by Magoku soldiers. The soldiers are driven away and the party continue onward, eventually arriving at the town of Sidon. The town port is in uproar as violent Beasts have stowed away on one of the docked ships. Yūri and Esau climb aboard and defeat a pair of Yakudara, freeing the ship and allowing it to set sail for Saloon. The party continue northwest of Sidon and soon reach Esau’s Home, where a number of scholars have been assisting Esau in researching the world at large. Yūri learns from one of the men that Esau had lost his wife and son Rand two years ago to an illness, and he has been desperate to find Blantica ever since. Esau reconvenes after conversing with his assistants and suggests they travel next to the Ebla kingdom for clues on Sol Leon’s whereabouts.

The party head westward to the Ebla kingdom. Ebla, along with the kingdom of Hypatia, have been at war with Magoku as Ebla accepts both the humans and Beasts living together in peace. Yūri reunites with Krau and Zodia at the Ebla garden. Krau points out that the garden’s tree has withered away and she can sense its suffering. She implores Yūri if he knows anything about the Power of Aqua, which she believes may be able to save the tree. Esau recalls the name and suggests that they return to his residence to investigate more.

At Esau’s Home, the party speak with the assistants and determine that the Power of Aqua can be found at the Underground Lake in the northern mountain range. They take the tunnel key and return to Krau and Zodia to share the news, who then accompany the party to the Underground Lake. When they arrive, Krau casts a spell on the lake’s water, allowing them to gather the Power of Aqua. They return Ebla to use Aqua on the tree, but to Krau’s dismay, finds that it has no effect.

Afterwards, the party then meet and speak with the King of Ebla. The King informs them that he had sent his spies to the northwest town of Manasseh to gather intelligence on Magoku’s activities, but they have not returned yet. He asks Yūri’s party to go to Manasseh to investigate. When they arrive at Manasseh, the party learn that the Magoku army have been hiring the populace to work at the Lake Island. The workers have been returning with unusual symptoms of terrible pain. During the investigation, the party voluntarily agree to join Magoku’s operations and are ferried off to the island, only to discover that the army have set up a base where the townsfolk have been enslaved. The workers report they have been building figures known as Granmam from the metal mined in Sippar, but are unaware of their purpose. Further in the base, Yūri locates Ebla’s missing spies. The spies have discovered that Magoku have been mining the Bacquerel alloy, a highly toxic metal that causes great pain and paralysis. The spies immediately depart to inform the Ebla King and urge Yūri and the others to leave at once. The party fight off the guard and escape the island, returning to Ebla to report the news. The King then asks Yūri’s party to investigate Sippar next.

The party travel to the southern mountain range and arrive at Sippar, where they find that most of the townsfolk are sick from Bacquerel poisoning. Meanwhile at an undisclosed location, while the party rest at the town inn, Magoku soldiers led by Medoch corner a Beast. The Beast’s pleas for mercy go ignored as Medoch orders the soldiers to kill the Beast, whereupon he retrieves its bones. He then instructs the soldiers to bring Sol Leon next.

Yūri and the party head into the Bacquerel Mine northwest of Sippar and drive off the Magoku soldiers inside. In the depths of the mines, they confirm that Magoku has indeed been mining the metal and they hurry back to Ebla to report their findings. The King informs that only a group known as the Magres, a Gaia research team located in Breton, can cure Bacrequel poisoning. Yūri is given a correspondence letter to deliver to the Magres, and the party return to Sidon to take a ship bound for Breton.

Breton and Safia

Upon arriving at the island settlement of Breton, Yūri delivers the letter to the Magres in the temple and one of the members leave to treat the sick at Sippar. The Magres also mention that Medoch had been banished from Breton fifteen years ago. The team have since been gathering information about Medoch’s activities and have obtained his research material, documenting how he is extracting Beast Bones and sealing them with Bacquerel to give form to new life, calling these new entities Demons.

As the party leave the temple, a man panickedly dashes inside with urgent news. Safia, a girl who had attacked the town in a rage and was consequently sealed in the Breton Tower, has escaped her confines. Fearing that she will return to have her revenge, the town has broken into hysteria. Yūri and the party decide to investigate as they enter and climb the tower. They run into Safia along the way before being intercepted by one of the Magres, ordering her to stay inside the tower due to the immense strength of her Gaia. Safia slips by the group and they hurry after her to the base of the tower, where Safia is stopped by Ganzū, a Gaia Master of Magoku and one of the kingdom’s most elite soldiers. Suddenly an explosion ruptures through the region, and Ganzū concludes that Magoku’s mission at Breton had been a success. He introduces himself to Yūri and comments they may meet again someday, before teleporting away. Safia rebukes the Magres man’s orders to stay behind as she hurries on ahead to see what had happened to the temple.

The party arrive to find the Magres in a panic as the Magoku army has stolen the Book of Baal in the confusion, a tome revealing the secrets of life and creation. The Magres blame Safia for the incident, enraging her as she swears to prove everyone wrong and surpass their expectations. She decides to accompany Yūri thereon on his journey to Magoku. As the Magoku kingdom is surrounded by ocean, the Magres teaches Yūri Tranpa so that he can teleport there. Outside, Esau reunites with his assistants, informing him they have found someone in Saloon who is also searching for Blantica. Esau splits from the party for Saloon while Yūri and the rest teleport to the Magoku kingdom.

At Magoku, Krau and Zodia proceed ahead to inspect the kingdom’s large tree. They find that the tree there is also withering, and decide to part with Yūri to investigate the cause. Yūri reunites with Larsa in Magoku Castle, who has banded with the soldier rebels to rescue Sol Leon and take down Medoch. However, neither Medoch nor Sol Leon can be found in the castle. Yūri later finds the Magoku King and Medoch in the throne room as they teleport inside. Safia demands Medoch return the Book of Baal as well as Sol Leon, yet Medoch rebukes her and swears he needs them both to defeat Gryas. The Magoku King orders Yūri and his party to be imprisoned in the castle dungeon.

Ganzū later appears and frees the party from their cell, urging them to hurry back to Ebla. The party escape the castle through an underground tunnel leading outside the kingdom. They reconvene with the King of Ebla and his subjects at Breton’s temple, where he informs the party that Magoku are planning on invading Hypatia and asks them to assist the kingdom. The party sail to Tyros to transfer to another ship bound for Hypatia, but become stuck at Tyros due to ocean storms stopping outgoing ships.

The Salem Plateau Tournament

Yūri runs into Medea at Tyros, who confesses that she has secretly followed Larsa all the way there. Yūri also meets one of Esau’s assistants and learns that Esau is waiting for him at the town of Lycaon. There he finally reunites with Esau at the Lycaon Mine. Esau asks for Yūri’s assistance as he needs the gold in the mines to build a ship. They shortly discover that the miners have been transformed into treasure chests by the Beast Makkara as payback for taking the gold. Makkara is defeated and the miners are returned to their ordinary selves. With the gold acquired, Esau leaves the party again to build his ship.

Yūri’s party return to Tyros and, with the storms now lifted, take the next ship bound for Hypatia’s continent. When they dock at the port, a sailor informs them that Hypatia has been attacked. The party head northwest to the kingdom, only to find it completely decimated and the populace slaughtered. The few remaining survivors claim they were attacked by Magoku’s Beasts and a hooded man, referring to Medoch. The dying king implores Yūri to retrieve the dragon egg, which the Magoku soldiers had taken to Gis Fortress in the far north.

The party infiltrate Gis Fortress and at last locate Sol Leon in the dungeon, along with several other imprisoned Beasts. The other Beasts state they would have all died had Larsa not shown up earlier and saved them. However, Yūri and Larsa are too late and find Sol Leon dying. She recognizes how much Yūri has grown, and reminisces how she had saved Yūri and Larsa from the Magoku kingdom when they were babies. Sol Leon tells Yūri that no one is to blame for her fate before passing away. Yūri recalls back to when he and Larsa were young children in the forest: Larsa’s bullying had made Yūri cry, but they were able to reconcile by Sol Leon’s loving urging.

Larsa is enraged at Sol Leon’s passing and swears that he will never forgive humanity for all the destruction caused, and vows that he will change the world with his Gaia, before running out of the fortress. Yūri proceeds ahead to confront Medoch and fights his Demon Gozuki. Medoch, infuriated by Gozuki’s defeat, inserts another bone into the Granmam and manifests Mezuki before making his escape. After the battle, the party find the imprisoned Ebla spies along with the dragon egg. The men thank Yūri for saving them, fearing they were about to be used in Medoch’s experiments next. They report that Medoch has been creating Demons to use in the Salem Arena, where a major tournament is to be held, and assess their strength for combating Gryas. Yūri is instructed to take a ship to the town of Goku and head for the Salem Plateau from there.

When the party arrive at Goku, Yūri signs up to participate in the tournament. Rumors circulate through the town that participants who left for the arena have not been seen since. Yūri also reunites with Medea and Ganzū there. Medea is hopeful that Larsa will come around to old self again and that the trio of friends will remain together, while Ganzū is considering leaving the Magoku army behind.

The party travel to the Salem Plateau in the far north, finding the area destroyed and littered with bodies of fighters. A survivor states they had all been fooled and that the tournament is a ruse. As Yūri steps onto the arena, the Magoku King angrily demands Medoch why there are still survivors. Medoch reassures him as he summons another wave of Demons to attack, but the party triumph over them. Medoch and the Magoku King teleport away afterwards. In the wake of the fighting, Yūri finds that Ebla’s spies had been killed by the Demons.

Finding Blantica

Back at Goku, the party hear rumors that Krau and Zodia were last seen heading for Eridu. Following this tip, Yūri sails for Eridu and learns from the townsfolk there that the people in the southern village have all disappeared, and that the surrounding forest has started withering. Furthermore, a group of Eridu children had headed for the village and have not come back since. When the party leave to investigate, they find the village in ruin. Yūri finds Krau there and she explains that Zodia went to rescue the children hiding in the village well. The children are found safe, but a sinister presence is detected further in the underground cavern. Both Krau and Zodia accompany the party as they investigate the source. At the end of the cavern, they are attacked by a shadowy figure called Gaia. The party repel the entity, but it swears that it cannot be destroyed so long as Gaia power exists, before fading away. Krau realizes that the entity must be the source of the trees’ withering, and not Gryas nor the Beasts as once suspected. She informs Yūri that she and Zodia will head back to Blantica to investigate the situation more. As the two leave, Safia recalls that Esau has been searching for Blantica and she urges Yūri that they go find him at once.

Returning to Esau’s Home, Safia informs him that Krau is actually from Blantica; however, no one knows where exactly she headed. Although disappointed, Esau concludes that they simply have to find Krau again, and suggests they sail to the Diel Continent aboard his newly-completed ship. Enroute to the continent, the party land at the Small Village, where they learn that Krau had come from a place called Sarmatia in the Diel Continent. On the island southeast of the village, the party locate the Agashya Cavern where they find the Book of Gryas sealed inside. The Book details an account of how a phenomena known as the Black Gaia led to the fall of the Fifth Planet and the subsequent war on Terra, as well as Gryas’s vow to protect the Beasts as deserving of life as anyone else.

At Sarmatia, the townsfolk are on high alert as flying ships from the south have been seen passing overhead. Consequently, the town bridge has been closed and no one is permitted to cross without the elder’s permission. The party meet with the town elder, who is also Safia’s grandmother, but she forbids Safia from traveling south as the forbidden spell Rankain is sealed there. However, she recognizes Yūri’s strength and contemplates allowing him to accompany Safia. The town elder then senses a disturbance and implores the two to hurry back to Goku.

At Goku, the party overhear from the rebel soldiers that Medea was last seen heading to the port with a man. A sailor reports that pirates were in the area earlier. Arriving onto the scene, Ganzū concludes that Medea had been abducted by pirates. Feeling indebted to saving her, Ganzū elects to join Yūri’s party in accompanying them to the Pirates’ Hideout. They find Medea mortally wounded in the hideout’s prison. Medea admits she had been foolish and explains she willingly went with the pirates to make Larsa worry after he had grown distant. She passes away and Ganzū, in grief and furious at Larsa’s inattention, leaves the prison as he casts Tranpa. When the party return to Goku, they learn from Ganzū’s soldiers that Ganzū had been captured by the Magoku army and sentenced to execution at Canossa Island.

Yūri and the party infiltrate Canossa Island and fight off the guards inside, finding Ganzū alone in his prison cell. Ganzū is in disbelief over how he allowed himself to be captured so easily. He decides to test Yūri’s strength in a one-on-one sparring match. Following this, Ganzū informs Yūri that Larsa has gotten much stronger now and that his Gaia would allow him to create a world of Beasts. He teams up with Yūri to put a stop to Larsa and together they return to the Magoku kingdom.

At Magoku, the group discover that Medoch’s Demons have run rampant and seized the castle. They fight through waves of Demons to the castle throne room, where they find that Medoch has lost all control of his Demons and is shortly killed by them. In the adjacent chamber, the party find King Magoku dying on the floor while Larsa watches on with the Book of Baal. King Magoku laughs scornfully at Medoch’s demise before lamenting how the decision to kill the children fifteen years ago had sealed the kingdom’s fate, then passes away. Larsa nonchalantly sets the Book of Baal ablaze and vows he will gather all of the world’s hatred and with it create Makai, the world of Demons ruled by Gaia. Larsa then teleports away. As the party leave the castle, they are surrounded by the anxious soldiers worried who will be in charge of the kingdom next. One soldier elects Ganzū as the next King of Magoku. Ganzū attempts to reason with the soldiers, but yields to the women’s pleas to stay behind. Meanwhile, while the party rest at the inn, Larsa proceeds with his plan of forming Makai by gathering Gaia to create a rift in time-space. He calls out to Yūri that Makai will form to the southeast of Sarmatia.

Returning to Sarmatia, the party find that the townsfolk have already begun evacuating in response to Larsa’s plans, while the town elder has reportedly left for the eastern shrine. At the shrine, Safia’s grandmother teaches her Rankain, cautioning her of the danger of using it. Further south, the party locate a grounded ship populated by Beasts, who comment that the ship could fly with the power of Lapis. Following the clues they had gathered on their journey, the party travel to the Lapis Cave, where Safia uses her Star Knuckles from the Small Village to break apart the levitating boulder and retrieve the Lapis inside. The Lapis is brought back to the Beasts’ Ark and placed on its pedestal, reactivating the flying Ark as it takes to the skies. With the Ark, the party fly to the elevated steppe in the Diel Continent, where they finally locate the hidden Blantica kingdom.

Blantica and Makai

Esau wastes no time in hurrying ahead to Blantica’s shrine. As the party follow him inside, Esau explains to the shrine elders that he has heard any wish could be granted in Blantica, and begs them to revive his deceased wife and son. However, the elders refuse his request, explaining that the people of Blantica chose to cast aside their Gaia long ago, along with the Necronomicon and the secret of resurrection. Even if they still had these, they cannot defy the fates. Their lecture infuriates Esau and he turns to return home. He comments to Yūri as they pass by that there is nothing left for him anymore without his family.

In the shrine’s inner sanctum, Yūri reunites with Krau and Zodia again. The latter is revealed to be a Duu, a construct that the Blantica people had created a thousand years ago. While the Duu normally lack souls and are silent, Zodia was an unusual exception who at some point had suddenly acquired a will of his own and chose to follow Krau. Krau reports that she has now determined the identity of the entity they had fought in the well: it was the Black Gaia, a tainted form of Gaia fashioned from the anger and anguish born from the souls of humans and Beasts.

As the party rest at the inn, Larsa succeeds in opening the space-time rift as the entrance to Makai emerges at the base of Blantica’s steppe. Larsa calls to all with Gaia to come and see what their warring has wrought.

Yūri and the others enter the cavern and confront Larsa at the gateway to Makai. Larsa believes that the world needs Makai to take away all the sorrow and pain inflicted by the bloodshed, and he engages Yūri in battle to settle things once and for all. Larsa is defeated and he reveals that Yūri is in fact the reborn King Gryas. Larsa once hoped he was the reborn king, but concedes that he does not fit the prophecies’ description of King Gryas as a benevolent lover of plants and Beasts. He gives Yūri his Pendant along with the Staff of El that he found in Agashya Cavern, before bidding Yūri farewell and passing away. As Safia gazes at El’s Staff, she recalls having seen it before, but cannot remember when exactly.

The party return to Blantica to show the staff to Krau and Zodia. Krau also remembers having once seen the staff at some point, and is overwhelmed by a feeling of intense melancholy. Safia then realizes that the whole group, including Esau and Ganzū, had all met each other years ago. The party band together to show the staff to the remaining members. Ganzū, upon seeing El’s Staff, recalls how in a previous life they had all been killed by the Black Gaia while fighting alongside Yūri in the war 2,000 years ago. Their deaths had subsequently led to the fall of the Fifth Planet. Esau, meanwhile, has uncovered a clue that the Dolmen stones can allegedly revive souls. He implores Yūri to find the Dolmen at once, but chooses to remain at his home.

Yūri finds the Dolmen on an isolated island and the party each take their place upon its five stones. Yūri’s friends all momentarily vanish as the voice of Gryas speaks out to him, telling him to concentrate on his allies’ voices. Yūri and his allies all learn the Force skill from the experience. The voice of Gryas lastly instructs the party to seek the counsel of Terra’s trees.

As the party return to Esau’s Home, Esau is visited by the souls of his wife and son. They urge him to protect the planet and disappear shortly afterward, telling him how much they love him. The encounter reinvigorates Esau as he rejoins Yūri’s party, learning Force as well. Returning to Blantica, Yūri speaks with the kingdom’s tree and receives the Light of Life.

Yūri brings the Light of Life to the Makai Entrance and uses it at the gateway. The Black Gaia resonates to the party’s life force and it drags them into Makai itself as time-space warps around them. The party make their way to the center of Makai where they confront the entity Gaia waiting for them. The entity is defeated in the ensuing battle and the party are transported back to the gateway on the surface, and watch as Makai seals away the Black Gaia. Yūri teleports the party out of the cavern just before the cavern collapses in. With the crisis averted and the planet now saved from certain destruction, the party each return to their homes to live out their old lives.
