Gryas is a figure who is reincarnated periodically and serves as the king of the Beasts. The inheritor of the title of Gryas is chosen by the Staff of El. A new Gryas often appears when the balance between humanity and Beasts is disrupted somehow.
Gryas is a central figure in Last Bible II, who is said to be reincarnated on a cycle. The events of the story unfold due to an attempt to kill the reincarnated Gryas during his childhood. Later, it is revealed that Yūri is the reincarnation of Gryas, having escaped death while being raised by Beasts.
Another Gryas appears in Last Bible Special, this time going solely by the name Gryas rather than using it as a title. This Gryas has taken over the holy city of Jerusalem. Prior to the events of the story, he found Hohenheim and learned the secret of creating Beasts from him. He then seals Hohenheim away in his lab and begins a campaign against Paragon. He raids Ignis Fort and Athanor Cavern, filling them with Beasts, while bringing people from all over the world to his castle in Jerusalem. While his motives are never stated outright, townspeople in Constance and Antioch speculate that Gryas was looking for the Flame Sword in Ignis Fort, as it is claimed that those who wield it will have the power to rule the world.
He appears in the final confrontation at Jerusalem, informing Mattel of Paragon's true nature as one who wishes to create a world solely for humans. He reveals that the ancestors of modern humanity came to this planet long ago by the will of the goddess, to share the world with Beasts in peace. If Mattel agrees with Gryas, then they will not fight, and he will instead gift him the Moon Ring. However, if he disagrees or sides with Paragon, Gryas will attack, leading to the bad ending after his defeat. Following this, he will lament that Mattel was a pawn until the end, but declares that he will be reborn as many times as it takes until the world is restored to the balance intended by the goddess.
