Profile
Origin
Patollu (among several other variants) was apparently the name of a Prussian deity associated with the dead in some fashion. He is first mentioned in a 1418 letter by the Bishop of Warmia.
According to Simon Grunau's dubious account, Patollo was a god of the dead. He claims Patollo was one of the three most important Prussian deities along with Patrimpo and Perkuno.
The Sudovian Book and Constitutiones synodales Warmienses, Sambienses, Pomesanienses, Culmenses, necnon provinciales Rigenses name Peckols or Pecols as a god of the underworld amongst the Prussians.
Under the name "Picollus", this deity is present in Jacques Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal. De Plancy writes that Picollus was a demon revered by the old inhabitants of Prussia (i.e. the Baltic Prussians) who was appeased with the heads of the dead and the burning of tallow.[1]
