Shin Megami Tensei V	The spirit of a monster-busting dog that used to live at Kozen-ji. Long ago, the villagers of Mitsuke would offer one of their own girls to a giant monkey yokai to prevent it from ravaging the fields. A monk passing by learned of this, and that it greatly feared Hayataro. The monk then rushed off and found him at a temple. Hayataro was offered in place of a village girl, where he then defeated the monster, but was mortally wounded in the epic battle. The loyal dog traveled back to Kozen-ji, where he died shortly after reuniting with his master.

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army

Hayataro appears in the case file Enter Hayataro at the shrine in Fukagawa-cho. After the offerings to the local shrine were eaten by a white dog, Raidou investigates and finds Hayataro responsible. Hayataro reveals he has been looking for Raidou, praising his kindhearted soul and claiming he travelled across timelines to similarly help people in need. Having recently encountered the Yomi-kugutsu, he realised he may be able to aid more people by allying himself with Raidou. Before he joins Raidou as one of his demons, he asks Raidou to battle so he may test his abilities. Upon defeat, Hayataro expresses awe of Raidou's abilities and gladly lends him his power to be summoned at the Goumaden. As he departs, Gouto notes that he feels a kinship with Hayataro.

Trivia

• His skill, Carnage Fang, attacks a different location based on the target.
• He was originally supposed to be the protagonist's first ally demon in Shin Megami Tensei V.
• In the Japanese version of Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, Gouto mentions that Hayataro's voice sounds familiar to him instead of feeling a kinship, which seems to be a joke since they share the same voice actor.

Nomenclature

From Japanese 早太郎 Hayatarō. The first kanji means "early; swift", and the last two kanji are a common suffixing element in male given names.
