Navarre is a character in Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He is one of the five samurai chosen by the gauntlet in the yearly Gauntlet Rite. After dying in an accident, he becomes a ghost that haunts Nanashi.

Profile

As a Samurai Navarre wears the standard uniform of the Samurai of Mikado, wearing a blue coat with white accents over a white shirt, white pants and boots, and has a sword resting on his left hip. He wears a gauntlet on his left hand and has his brown hair styled into a pompadour. As with all samurai in his year he wears a scarf around his neck, with his being green.

As a ghost Navarre appears as a small green entity without any clear physical traits, with the only exceptions being his face, butt cheeks, and his signature pompadour. In the DLC story A Trip to Hawaii, Navarre is able to regain his human form where he wears swim briefs donned with a life jacket and floaties, referencing how he drowned in his previous life.

Navarre is very prideful and arrogant, carrying himself with a sense of superiority that he struggles to back up in the face of authority or conflict. He hold extremely classist views, having been raised in an affluent Luxor family and sees the Casualry class as lesser beings, which causes hostility between himself and his fellow samurai Flynn and Walter, and he sees no issue with causing physical harm on them to enforce his beliefs. This behavior also causes a rift between him and his fellow Luxors, Jonathan and Isabeau. After being trapped in the domain of Alraune he is severely traumatized, becoming extremely fearful and paranoid and losing all his pride and arrogance.

In Apocalypse he has recovered somewhat from his trauma, moderately restoring his pride and arrogance though he no longer looks down on others as he once did, instead proclaiming his greatness rather than disparaging others. He is also deeply ashamed of his past actions, both in his treatment of Flynn and general behavior when alive, which is what kept his tied to the living world as a ghost. He is greatly supportive of Nanashi even when others doubt him, and is shown to be easily flustered and embarrassed in the face of kind words.
