Nanashi is a Hunter in training based in Kinshicho, alongside his adoptive sister Asahi. As the playable character, he does not speak, but rather has his responses chosen by the player when prompted. These responses can range from understanding and sympathetic to harsh and blunt. The people around him tend to defer the leadership role to him, seeing him as strong and capable. He also happens to be a deep sleeper and rousing him awake becomes an arduous task.

He wears a forest green jumpsuit decorated with patches of varying military-esque designs and typography, such as the phrase "NO WAR" and the opening verse to John Lennon's "Imagine". He also sports a singular glove on his right hand, a pair of knee pads, a utility belt with two slim pouches, a smartphone holder on his left wrist, and a strap around his torso to hold his all-black ninjatō [a] when he's not wielding it. He has half-shaved hair, with its longer ends parted to the right, alongside brown eyes. After meeting Dagda and agreeing to his terms, Nanashi's eyes turn green and he gains green markings on his right cheek and his left hand.

Reason: Incomplete synopsis relating to the character.

Nanashi was born in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado in the year 346AD. Through unknown circumstances the infant Nanashi was left the Sky Tower in Tokyo in the year 2023 under the firmament, where he was found by Boss and adopted and raised alongside his daughter Asahi. Due to his unknown origins and lack of information about him he was given the name Nanashi, meaning "nameless". In 2037 one year prior to the events of Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, Nanashi became a cadet in the Hunter Association training under the veteran hunters Nikkari and Manabu.

Nanashi begins the events of Apocalypse in the year 2038 A.D. waiting with Asahi for the return of Nikkari and Manabu in downtown Ginza as the Hunters fight to aid Flynn in his attempts to free Tokyo. During this Nanashi has a vision of Masakado's Chosen speaking with Masakado and reaching out to someone named Akira before being awoken by Asahi, with the two attempting to allieviate their boredom by watching the Hunter Association's broadcast regarding Flynn as they rally the Hunters to support Flynn. Nikkari and Manabu return having successfully cleared the area of demons and allows Nanashi and Asahi out to salvage for resources that may aid the people of Tokyo. Nanashi finds a damaged smart phone, an important resource for its ablity to run the Demon Summoning Program though it is too damaged to properly function and is allowed to keep it by Manabu. Returning from the salvage mission, Nikkari teaches the cadets on the history of Tokyo, specifically the events of God's Plan and how some hunters including himself were able to travel through to the other side of the fimament before being forced back by the angels, and how with Yuriko and Tayama defeated by Flynn the Hunter Association is the de-facto government of Tokyo. With all their missions completed and the area clear the group returns to the Kinshicho underground district to rest.

When Nanashi falls asleep, he has a flashback from the perspective of Akira from within the Counter-Demon Force base, allowing him to see the events of God's Plan. Through Akira he sees the leaders of the Counter-Demon force scramble as ICBM's are launched across the world with one heading directly for Tokyo as he along with Fujiwara and Skins try and locate Masakado's Chosen. Before the missile hits Tokyo, Akira sees Masakado's Chosen in Ginza where he uses Masakado's Katana to cut off his own head and fuse with Masakado so he can shield Tokyo, transforming himself into the firmament. The flashback ends when Nanashi awakens, who talks to Nikkari to try and make sense of the vision. Nikkari and Manabu evade answering his quesitons, but tell him not to mention the name Akira to anyone in the Hunter Association due to it being a taboo subject.
