Gaston is the leader of the Crusaders, having been handpicked by Merkabah due to his impressive talents. He prefers to do things on his own, believing his skill to be enough to deal with any problem in front of him. This complements his haughty attitude, as he never minces his words and is quick to chastise a person for their shortcomings. Despite his condescending and insensitive disposition, he does conscientiously follow the Samurai Code, vowing to protect the people no matter what. He also harbors a grudge against his older brother Navarre, as his brother's discharge from being a Samurai brought shame upon their family name.
He wears the typical beige samurai uniform undergarments and a gauntlet on his left arm. However, where his attire differs is what he wears over the uniform: a high collared tabard with a white jabot, distinguishing him as a member of the Crusaders. The tabard's insignia features one large cross surrounded by four interconnected smaller crosses, meant to represent God and the four archangels.[2] He wields the Spear of Michael, a weapon bestowed upon him by Merkabah that is capable of changing shape according to the desire of the wielder.[3]
Gameplay
Gaston specializes in physical attacks. However, he may steal the player's press turns at random, leaving the player unable to act if he does so. The amount of press turns he will steal is also random.
Gaston first meets Nanashi and his party when they are tasked with escorting the Crusaders to Kasumigaseki. He immediately reprimands the group for their tardiness then declares that the Crusaders will slay Shesha and take back Flynn to be judged by Merkabah. He also demands to be referred to as "Sir" Gaston and scolds his fellow Crusader for trying to speak over him. Then he goes on to make a boastful speech about his talents and showcases the Spear of Michael as proof of his magnificence. Hallelujah remarks on the similarities between Gaston's attitude and his brother's, causing the man to vehemently deny being related to Navarre. Not wanting to waste more time, Gaston commands Nanashi and his party to do their assigned task.
On the way, he can comment on the state of Tokyo and its residents, abhorring their habit of gathering relics and affirming their "unclean" status[4]. Once at Kasumigaseki, he tells the party to cower underground as he will lead the Crusaders to victory in slaying Shesha before heading underground himself.
Later, Gaston stops Nanashi and the party from immediately leaving to fight Shesha in Shibuya. The rest of the Crusaders are nowhere to be seen and Gaston does not deign to confirm whether they left him on their own volition or not. Instead, he invites the party to join him in slaying Shesha; in actuality, he is moreso demanding them to lead him to the serpent so he alone can kill Shesha. Nanashi and the party decide to take him with them as they need the extra firepower.
During the fight with Shesha, he proves the effectiveness of the Spear of Michael as he is able to damage the serpent. When Shesha is close to death, Gaston impales its head whilst gloating about his prowess, although this leaves his spear embedded in the serpent. Unfortunately, his attack was not enough to slay Shesha, leaving the finishing blow to Nanashi. Afterwards, Gaston begins an infuriated tirade at having his kill stolen. Asahi tries to interrupt his rant but he directs his fury at her instead, belittling her attachment to Nanashi. Nozomi steps in to prevent the argument from escalating and asks Gaston to try to be more cooperative; he instead rebukes her request, insisting that fighting alone is the expectation. At the same time, a notification arrives indicating another broadcast will take place, with Gaston following the party back to Kinshicho to prove himself as the true victor.
