"The Great Spirit of Hope" is a Quest in Shin Megami Tensei IV.
Overview
This quest is registered after Masakado gives Flynn a chalice to fill with the hopes of the people of Tokyo.
Upon visiting any Hunter Association, the bartender tells Flynn that in order to shake things up and boost the Hunter trade, they're combining the leaderboards, turning the ranking system into a tournament to determine the champion Hunter -- a hero that everyone could pin their hopes on. An outsider like Flynn competing would be just the thing they need to drum up interest.
To become the champion, the following Challenge Quests must be completed:
- Eggs for One Hundred
- I Want to Make the City Bright
- Deliver the Film
- Samurai and Hunters United
- Hunter Tournament Prelims
- Phantom of Madness
- Shelter Inspection
- Ikebukuro Free District
- Demon Guarding the Shrine
- Hunter Tournament Finals
- Serial Kidnapping + Arson
- The Great Drunkenness
- Take a Picture of Ginza for Me
- Rebirth of the Lady
- Multi-Demon Fusion
- Mysterious Story of Tennozu
- Tokyo Cosmos
After completing the necessary Challenge Quests and becoming #1 on the leaderboard, the bartender declares Flynn to be the Hunter Association's first champion. As he thinks about how a champion could bring hope in these dark times, Isabeau notices something filling the chalice. The bartender then jokingly warns Flynn that he'll be mobbed by adoring fans wherever he goes.
Afterwards, when visiting the underground districts in Ueno, Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ikebukuro, someone will recognize Flynn as the champion, causing crowds of people to gather and cheer him on, causing more light to pool within the chalice. Visiting all four of these underground districts fills the chalice, creating the Great Spirit of Hope.
Upon returning to Ginza and talking to Masakado, he eats the Great Spirit of Hope, and the quest is completed.

|---|---|---|
| The Earth Spirit Masakado | ★1 | 15000 Macca |
| Task | Offer the Great Spirit of Hope to Masakado. | |
| Stage | Quest Description | |
|---|---|---|
| Initial | Offer the Great Spirit of Hope as a substitute for my lost powers. When the chalice is brimming with the hopes of the people of Tokyo, the Great Spirit of Hope shall appear. | |
| After visiting the Hunter Association | A "champion", eh? Humans dream up such delightful things. If you truly wish to bring hope to the world of man, then it must be a man who delivers it, not any god or demon. Will you assume the throne of this "champion"? | |
| After becoming Champion | Your title of "champion" brings hope that elicits spontaneous hosannas from the people. Even my "new emperor" could not accomplish this. That is why hope will surge wherever you go. I suggest that you bring the people hope by showing your personage across the lands. | |
| Chalice is filled | I see that you have in your possession the Great Spirit of Hope. The hopes of all Tokyo's peoples are within your hands. Hurry and bring the Great Spirit of Hope to me. | |
