Profile
Origin
The Regent Diamond or simply Regent[a] is a diamond owned by the French government currently on display in the Louvre. It was sold around 1701 to Thomas Pitt, the English president of Fort St. George, who in turn sold it to Philip II, Duke of Orléans, who was at the time the French regent during the minority of King Louis XV. The Regent Diamond was subsequently included in the regalia of several French kings and emperors, with the final bearer being Napoleon III.
