Nomenclature

The name Omizunu (variant form: Omitsuno) has been hypothesized to derive from 水 mizu ("water"). Various kanji spellings have been used in historical texts, but they are all purely phonetic.

The form of the name used in Japanese installments of the Megami Tensei franchise, オオミツヌ Ōmitsunu with a long O, is non-standard.
