Origin

Lailah, meaning "night", is an angel mentioned in the Babylonian Talmud that is based on an interpretation of Genesis 14:14–15 and Job 3:3 by Rabbi Yoḥanan bar Nappaḥa. According to Yoḥanan, in the Genesis passage, Lailah assisted Abraham in his battle against Kedorlaomer and three other kings to free his nephew Lot; this is based on interpreting "night" (lailah) in the sentence as referring to an angel named Lailah by comparing to the Job passage, where night is personified, saying "A male child is conceived".

Lailah holds a test tube of what appears to be semen, possibly due to Lailah (under Rabbi Yoḥanan's interpretation) saying that a male child is conceived in Job 3:3.
