Profile
Origin
Ihika (井氷鹿 as spelled in the Kojiki, 井光 as spelled in the Nihon Shoki) is a water god belonging to the Kunitsukami tribe, said to be the protector of wells. He was encountered by Emperor Jimmu during his eastern campaign, emerging from a glowing well or river.[1]
Design
Ihika's design in Shin Megami Tensei II resembles an anthropomorphic newt or salamander, possibly reflecting its role as a protector of wells. According to artist Katsumi Aizaki, Kazunari Suzuki's pet newt or gecko served as the model and reference for Ihika's design in Giten Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation.[2]
