Haneda
Haneda is a character in Shin Megami Tensei II.
Profile
Haneda is a gladiator trainer who owns the biggest gym in Valhalla. He is a very arrogant and haughty man, and is heavily implied to be homosexual due to his manner of speech matching that of a typical gay stereotype along with how others speak of him. When he was younger, he was a gladiator going by the name of "Feather Adonis"[1], who clashed with another gladiator named "Killer Tsune", or Okamoto as he is known currently. Haneda won the battle, earning his place as champion, and still has a bit of a rivalry with Okamoto as owners of opposing gladiator gyms.
Game Appearances
Shin Megami Tensei II
Haneda is first mentioned by Okamoto, who voices his displeasure with the man, and claims that with Hawk as his protegee, Haneda will no longer be able to show him up once he wins the gladiator tournament finals.
Should Hawk visit Haneda's gym, he can meet the trainer in his office, who comments that Hawk is "cute" and "just his type", and offers to let him join his gym. He allows him to still use his Virtual Battler to train, but is confident that it won't do him any good and that his trainee Red Bear will defeat him regardless.
At the Colosseum, multiple statues of previous Valhalla champions can be found, including one of Feather Adonis. On it's plaque it will say that he is remembered for his deadly battle against Killer Tsune.
After Hawk successfully defeats Red Bear and wins the tournament, Okamoto uses the fame and prize money from the victory to buy out Haneda's gym, forcing the man to relocate to Okamoto's old gym. Visiting him there will show that he has had the tables flipped on him, as he is struggling financially and has had to take on many debts to stay afloat.
Visionaries
Haneda is featured in two Visionary cutscenes in the Game Boy Advance and iOS versions of the game.
"Missing Twin Sword" takes place in the era where Haneda was still in his gladiator days as Feather Adonis. Though not physically present, Killer Tsune speaks about him, as he was his oppenent for the tournament finals at the time. He voices his clear displeasure for the man, saying that he talks in a funny way, and frequently calls him words that the text censors. Nonetheless, he says that his strength is genuine, and tries to brainstorm ways he can combat him.
In "Champion's Sunglasses", Haneda appears directly as Feather Adonis, taking place in the same era as in "Missing Twin Sword". He speaks about his coming matches in the gladiator tournament, confident that he will utterly crush all opposition and become Champion. He briefly wonders about being able to speak with Madam, before dismissing the thought and writing her off as the typical high-perched woman. He briefly admires his appearance and physique, before thinking about his opponent Killer Tsune, though he quickly dismisses that thought as well, arrogantly telling himself that he will swiftly defeat him without difficulty.
