Shin Megami Tensei II

Hanada is first mentioned by Hiroko when she first meets Hawk, telling him she believes that he, along with another scientist named Mekata, was involved in the disappearance of a little boy she is looking for. Having tracked down Hanada to Madam's mansion, she asks that Hawk take her along with him to visit her. There, Madam tells them that she had actually employed Hanada for a bit, as he was the one who summoned the demons used in the Colosseum, but he recently ran away and intends on opening a portal to the Makai to summon a horde of demons.

When the party confronts him at the Slums, he is in the middle of performing a summoning ritual. He rants about his perceived genius being held back by people like Madam or the "zealots" at the Center and proclaims that all his research has led him to be able to summon demons to help him do whatever he may desire. He hurriedly puts down all the artifacts to commence the summoning and creates a one-way portal to the Makai. As a demon comes out of the portal, Hanada orders it to attack the party, but instead of listening to him, it attacks him, killing him.

Later, when Aleph's party invades the Center's headquarters, they can stumble upon Mekata's lab, where in one of the rooms Aleph is hit with a flashback of him escaping from the Center with Mekata and Hanada. As Mekata is talking to Aleph, he is interrupted by Hanada who alerts him to how the Elders are onto them. Mekata is displeased at this but begrudgingly tells Hanada to turn on a device, to which Hanada gleefully obliges, remarking that this will really piss the Elders off.

Hanada is mentioned once again by Mekata inside Abaddon's body, where he reveals he was a fellow scientist in the Messiah Project who helped him sabotage it and escape with Aleph.

Visionaries

Hanada is featured in one Visionary cutscene in the Game Boy Advance and iOS versions of the game.

In "Grimoire of Insect Eating", Hanada is complaining to himself in a lab about being made to study the Messiah when he thinks that the study of demons is much more valuable. He believes that instead of needing to rely on some unrealistic idea of salvation, they should focus on trying to freely control demons to have them obey their commands. He mentions that his research was said to be useful because it focused on forcibly accelerated breeding technology, but chuckles to himself as this breeding resembles a demon's biological flow. Resolutely telling himself that demons are what will truly benefit humanity, he decides that if the Center will not approve of his experiments, he will have to leave the project as soon as possible to continue them on his own.

End of spoilers.
