Profile

Origin

Freyja (lit. "lady"), sometimes anglicized as Freya, is a Norse goddess. She rules over Fólkvangr, where half of those who die in battle go to, the other half going to Odin's Valhalla.

Freyja's origins are uncertain, having no parallels amongst other Germanic-speaking peoples. Many scholars have argued that Freyja is originally a hypostasis of Frigg, though the lack of direct evidence means it cannot be said for certain. Arguments for this include that Freyja is evidently originally a title rather than a proper name, and her husband's name, Óðr, derives from the same root as the name of Odin, the husband of Frigg.

北欧神話で最も美しく奔放な女神。美の化身であり、豊饒の神であり、愛の女神でもある。「猫の女王」「ヴァルキューレの先導者」「予言者」等、多くの添え名がある。元々はヴァン神族の女神だが、講和の証として父ニヨルド、兄フレイとともにアース神族に人質とされる。戦場に二匹の猫がひく戦車に乗って現れ、戦場から戦死者の魂を半分選び取り、戦いの野にある彼女の館に迎え入れるといわれている。ブリシンガメンという名の首飾りと空を飛べる鷹の翼を所持していた。ブリシンガメンは死後の楽園である異界へ入るための虹の橋でもある

The most beautiful and uninhibited goddess in Norse mythology. She is the physical incarnation of beauty, a fertility deity, and the goddess of love. She has many epithets, including the Queen of Cats, the Guide of the Valkyries, and the Prophet. She was originally a goddess of the Vanir, but she, her father Njörd, and her brother Frey were given as hostages to the Æsir as proof of reconciliation. It is said that she appears in the battlefield riding a chariot pulled by two cats, and she chooses and takes half of the souls of the slain, ushering them into her estate, the meadow of war. She had a necklace called Brisingamen and the wings of a hawk, which allow her to fly. Brisingamen is also the Rainbow Bridge which is used to enter the otherworld, the Paradise of the afterlife.
