Deva[a] is a Sanskrit word referring to deities.
According to Deva's official profile in Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei: Hisshō Kōryaku-hō Kanpeki-ban, this demon is an Indian evil spirit who fought against the gods using magic but lost and became a minion of Lucifer.[1] Its description as an evil spirit may be because the cognate of deva in Iranian languages (e.g. daēuua in Avestan) refers to demons.
