Democalypse is a recurring event in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2.

Overview

Democalypse is a Faction event that has Factions fight against simulated Demon invasions across Tokyo. Each occurrence of the event is referred to as a Season.

Democalypse is divided into three areas: Akihabara, Shinjuku and Odaiba. Each area is assigned a Calamity, which the player fights with two parties of three Demons each. During a Democalypse battle, the player's Demons will act autonomously and recover 10 MP on each of their turns. The goal is to gain score by dealing damage across both encounters. Players can freely simulate battles in any area during the event.

The Faction gains an Inherited Rating depending on participation from the previous day, starting at 1 on the first day, and building up until the last day. Each player's score is multiplied by this number at the end of a battle.

Minimum participation Rating increase
1 player 0.1
5 players 0.2
10 players 0.4
15 players 0.6
20 players 0.8

Calamities

There are seven total Calamities, each associated with one Attribute weakness. A Calamity consists of a Prelim and a Boss named after the Calamity.

The Prelim consists of a horde of a single Demon. This horde is functionally four of that Demon that share a single health pool, though they only have 2 Press Turns and do not die when running out of HP. The Prelim lasts for 2 of the player's turns. Damage dealt during the Prelim builds their Bonus Rating, which starts at 1. Hitting a weakness adds 0.25 per enemy per skill (including its Chain Effects), while damage adds 0.04 per 1% of health depleted.

The Boss consists of a single Demon with a large health pool, which is shared to all members of one Faction, though it also does not die when running out of health. Damaging the Boss grants score equal to the damage dealt times the Bonus Rating. Once the Boss's HP reaches 0, it will reset and count as a defeated Calamity for the Faction. The Boss fight lasts for 3 of the player's turns.

The seven Calamities are as follows:

Hatred Fire Makara Mastema
Seraph Ice Ammut Seraph
Steel Elec Unicorn Zaou-Gongen
Fallen Force Kresnik Mother Harlot

Event structure

The event period is divided into three phases: Before Cull, During Cull and After Cull.

The Before Cull phase lasts four days. During it, the Faction leader selects the area their Faction will target, and may change their selection freely. If no area is selected, a random one will be chosen. One of the areas is designated as a Bonus Area, which grants increased rewards.

The During Cull phase lasts three days, after which the event is considered finished. During it, the Faction members can engage in real fights against the selected Calamity. Each member can fight twice a day, and once a Demon is used, neither it nor copies of that Demon can be used until the next day.

The After Cull phase takes place between two Democalypse events, typically lasting a week. Rewards are distributed, and the top-performing Factions of each area are dispalyed. Players can continue to engage in simulated battles against the Calamities of the prior Democalypse.

Rewards

In the During Cull phase, the player earns 20 Gems each time they fight the Calamity, and all members of a Faction gain 10 Democalypse Coins when the Boss is defeated.
