Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
After arriving at Sector Delphinus, multiple crewmen become noticeably aggressive and deranged, and eventually, their aggression reaches a point where they begin to rabidly attack and kill one another. At this, Arthur calls the crewmen who are still sane back to the Red Sprite and calculates that approximately 10% of the crew have been infected by a pathological illness that is causing this behavior. As it is undetectable by medical science, Arthur hypothesizes that it is a mental parasite and suggests using the MK Gun, a device that can alter human consciousness, to treat the infected crewmen, though he is unsure of how to obtain a specimen of the parasite to calibrate the device. As the medical team decides to call the disease the Delphinus Parasite, Zelenin realizes the similarities between the parasite and the behavior exhibited by the experimentees in Sector Bootes, and believing that Mitra's palace may hold some clues on how to deal with it, goes to the sector with the Protagonist to investigate.
There they receive some clues from Mastema, who reveals that there had been a sort of trade going on between Sector Bootes and Sector Delphinus, and eventually they find Mitra's private lab, where they discover the Madman's stone. Inscribed on it is a commemoration by Mitra celebrating his success in crystalizing "human madness", which also mentions the help he received from an ally named Asura, and so the two take the stone back to the ship to calibrate the MK Gun to its wavelength. As the Protagonist tests out the gun on one of the infected in sickbay, he and Zelenin get a glimpse of an unknown being quickly exiting the crewman, who is successfully cured. From there the Protagonist goes out into the sector to cure the rest of the crew, and once everyone has been cured of the parasite, they are permitted to continue searching the sector for its Rosetta stone. After this, the Protagonist and Zelenin register multiple Rosetta readings on their automaps, and going to one of the rooms with a reading, a strange demon confronts them, the same type of being that had exited from the crewmen, which proclaims that it will alter the human spirit into a beautiful shape before attacking the party. Once defeated, the demon leaves and takes the giant hive that was in the room with it, with Arthur hypothesizing that the demons are likely related to the Delphinus Parasite. Going to the other Rosetta readings, they reencounter the demon, who reads their minds and says that it is within them, making Zelenin deduce that it is the Delphinus Parasite itself, and though she tries to use the MK Gun on it, it proves to be ineffective against it. The Parasite denounces the human spirit as being hideous and claims to have cared for them by turning them beautiful, and then attacks the party, retreating with the giant hive once again after it is defeated.
Along the way of tracking down the other Rosetta readings, the Protagonist can encounter a crewman named McClane who gives him the Ex Mission "The shadow withdraws", where he asks the Protagonist to locate a crewman he believes is still under the effects of the Delphinus Parasite. The Protagonist proceeds and eventually stumbles across three arguing crewmen, each of them accusing the other of being infected. As McClane had told him the infected had an injured right hand, the Protagonist requests that each of them show their hands[a] until they locate the described crewman, who quickly explains that he received the injury from defending himself from the real infected crewman. At this moment McClane appears and reveals that he is in actuality the one still under the effects of the parasite, having just enough rationality left to trick the Protagonist into locating his escaped prey for him before manically attacking them. After subduing him, the Protagonist uses the MK Gun on him, curing McClane, who doesnt seem to recall anything that had happened, but still offers thanks for the help.
When the Protagonist and Zelenin locate the Delphinus Parasite for the third time, it taunts Zelenin by claiming that the crew of the Elve had looked at her with lustful and prejudice thoughts and attack her, though she is defended by the angel Mastema had gifted her, making it turn its attention to the Protagonist, who defeats it and watches as it retreats again. The fourth time they track it down, the parasite attempts to prey on Zelenin's doubts again, but is rebuffed and defeated by the Protagonist. This time, it acknowledges the humans' potential and beckons them to see it's true form as it disappears, which makes all the other Rosetta Stone readings disappear as well.
The two get a final reading coming from a room with a statue, and once they arrive to the room, mutliple Delphinus Parasite demons enter the statue until the statue transforms into a demon, who turns out to be Asura, the cause of the Delphinus Parasite. Asura refers to the parasites as his false statues, using them to turn the humans' spirits beautiful like they had once been.
Later, in Sector Fornax, the Protagonist's progression is blocked off by an invisible demon that can only be seen after obtaining Enemy Search B. Using the app to make it visible, the demon is revealed to be a form of the Delphinus Parasite, which, after realizing the Protagonist can see it, attacks him, though after it is defeated, it curses him and returns to it's main body.
