Cool is the default name of Setsuna Kai's demon partner in Devil Children Black Book. He starts off as a Cerberus and evolves at certain points of the game.

Profile

Cool is a young Cerberus cub who, fitting his name, has a cool-headed personality to contrast his hot-blooded partner Setsuna.

Gameplay

In battle, Cool starts off using the same base stats as a regular Cerberus, but he can be strengthened via Partner Fusion and is the only demon in Black Book capable of leveling up.

At several points in the game's story, Cool will evolve into a stronger form. If any of Cool's current stats are higher than the base stats of his evolved form, the current stats will be kept. On the other hand, if his current stats are lower than the base stats of his evolved form, they will be raised to match.

In the overworld, Cool will follow behind Setsuna and can be interacted with. Setsuna has the option to ride Cool in areas with demon encounters, which increases the movement speed and allows jumping over ledges, walking over lava, and burrowing underground in certain locations.

Cool and his younger brother Orthrus were born in Sand Land and were sealed away after being tricked by Fenrir the mercenary. Several years later, Cool's seal was broken when he was summoned by Setsuna Kai and the two formed a pact. From that point onwards, Cool stays by Setsuna's side to fight in his stead and act as his guide to Makai.

In Marble Land, Cool is gravely injured by Abaddon and cannot battle until Setsuna receives a special medicine from Vibhishana. Upon winning the tournament afterwards, Cool will evolve into a Death Cerberus. Upon reaching Sand Land, Cool informs Setsuna of what happened to his brother and requests they look for him while the two explore. Later, Setsuna will be attacked by Nagahisa in Forest Land, and after winning the battle Cool will evolve into a Hell Cerberus. After Setsuna meets with Lucifer in Central Land, Cool will evolve into his final form: a King Cerberus.

Exclusively in the PlayStation remake, Cool will serve as an opponent in BattleNet as King Cerberus. He uses three different teams but all of them have his brother Orthrus as the final member. Upon being defeated, Cool will reward the player with his younger brother, who has massively increased stats compared to the version that can be rescued in Sand Land.

Devil Children White Book

After completing the game, Cool can be temporarily traded with Setsuna for Masaki Kuzuha's own partner, Clay. Cool will start off at level 5 and will evolve into Death Cerberus, Hell Cerberus, and King Cerberus upon reaching levels 17, 30, and 45, respectively.
