Origin
Ishikawa Goemon was a Japanese outlaw famous for stealing gold and other valuables to give to the poor, similar to the tale of Robin Hood. He led an assassination attempt against the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which failed. He was subsequently boiled alive for his treasonous plot alongside his son. His legend lives on often being referenced in modern Japanese pop culture, though inaccurately as a skilled ninja, which in reality he was not.
