Baton Pass
Baton Pass, also called Shift, is a mechanic introduced in the Persona series which allows a turn to be passed to another character.
Gameplay
Persona 3 Reload
During a character's One More, they can choose to Shift to another team member and let them use their One More instead. A character can only be Shifted to once, and the character who initially Shifted also cannot be Shifted to. Shifting does not change the turn order, and once a character cannot obtain a One More, it becomes the turn of the character that would have gone after the initial character.

Takaya Sakaki and Jin Shirato are also capable of Shifting during their fight should they receive a One More.
Persona 5
During a character's One More, they can choose to Baton Pass to another team member whose Confidant is at least Rank 2 and let them use their One More instead, granting them increased damage and healing, which is compounded on consecutive Baton Passes. A character can only be Baton Passed to once, and the character who initially Baton Passed also cannot receive a Baton Pass. Baton Passing does not change the turn order, and once a character cannot obtain a One More, it becomes the turn of the character that would have gone after the initial character.

Caroline and Justine are also capable of Baton Passing during their fight should they receive a One More, though they do not receive the damage and healing benefits.
Persona 5 Royal
Baton Passes in Persona 5 Royal, compared to Persona 5, do not require a Confidant with the recipient. Additionally, the third consecutive Baton Pass nullifies skill costs for the recipient, meaning any skill can be used for free.
Additionally, each party member has a Baton Pass Rank, which starts at 1. Their Baton Pass rank can be increased by playing darts with them at Penguin Sniper: it will increase by 1 if the player finishes the game or by 2 if the character finishes instead. Baton Pass Rank 2 gives a slight HP heal when the character receives a Baton Pass, while Baton Pass Rank 3 gives a larger HP heal and a small SP heal, which also compound on consecutive Baton Passes.
