Follow-Up Attack is a recurring battle mechanic in the Persona series.
Overview
Follow-Ups are attacks that down enemies. They were introduced as a battle mechanic in Persona 4. When the protagonist downs an enemy and gains a One More, there is a chance that a party member will ask if they can use the One More to perform a follow-up attack and down another enemy.
Mechanics by Game
Persona 3 Portable
Follow-Ups were added to Portable. Here, they are called Co-ops, and involve the protagonist plus the party member attacking an enemy together to down it.
Persona 4

Reason: Not sure about the effects and targets. The P4G guidebook, the datamine sheet, and just gameplay footage all conflict with each other on some of these. |
After reaching Social Link rank 3, party members will start asking if they can perform follow-ups. The effect of each party member's follow-up varies. In the Japanese game, all of them are named Name's Follow-Up. In the English localization of the game, all of them have different names.
Party Member | Follow-Up | Effect |
---|---|---|
Yosuke Hanamura | Yosuke Strike | Crits a random enemy |
Chie Satonaka | Galactic Punt | Instantly kills a random enemy, or crits if it's a boss enemy |
Yukiko Amagi | Fan Assault | Crits a random enemy with a chance to cause Dizzy |
Kanji Tatsumi | Atomic Pressure | Crits random enemies |
Teddie | Wild Ways | Crits a random enemy |
Naoto Shirogane | Ultra Trigger | Crits random enemies with a chance to cause Dizzy |
Persona 4 Golden
Golden introduces two new kinds of follow-ups which are also unlocked when reaching Social Link rank 3.
The first is an Almighty damage combo move which triggers when two specific party members are in the party together and an All-Out Attack has failed to kill the enemies.
Characters | Combo |
---|---|
Chie and Yukiko | Twin Dragons |
Teddie and Yosuke | Junes Bomber |
Kanji and Naoto | Beauty and the Beast |
The second is called a Cavalry Attack which is performed by a party member who is not in the current party. They will ride in on their scooter and do an attack with the same effects as their regular follow-up.
