Saturnus, usually known as Saturn in English, is a Roman deity of agriculture. In later periods, Saturn was identified with the Greek god Cronus due to certain similarities, and Saturn came to adopt several aspects of Cronus, such as being the father of Jupiter (who was identified with Zeus).

Often referred to as "Black Sun" by Chaldean astronomers, linked to the low position of the sun around the time of the winter solstice. Also known as the "Night Sun" and also the "King of Death" living in the depths of the underworld. It is said that people prayed to Saturnus, the winter sun, to call for a new spring, and that custom became what we now know as Christmas.
