Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a 2013 fighting game, and a spin-off of Persona 4 from the Persona series. It was developed by Arc System Works, published by Atlus, and released as an arcade game on November 28, 2013 in Japan. In 2014, the game was ported to the PlayStation 3 and released on August 28 in Japan, September 30 in North America, and on November 21 in Europe. In North America and Europe, the game was also ported to the Xbox 360 and released on the same dates in their respective territories as the PlayStation 3 version. On March 17, 2022, the game was re-released worldwide for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The game is a sequel to the 2012 fighting game, Persona 4 Arena.

2022 re-release

On March 17, 2022, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was re-released on PC, Nintendo Switch and PS4 worldwide, and later received rollback netcode on August 5th of the same year.[1] The 2022 re-release is based off of the 2.0 arcade version of the game, which was originally only released in Japan.[2] The patch features many balance changes, both to the game's core mechanics and characters' individual move sets.[3]

Most notably, the 2.0 arcade version overhauls how "Shadow Type" characters function, as they now:

  • Can use Burst.
  • Can use Shadow Frenzy even at less than 100 SP.
    • Additionally, opponents can no longer use Defensive Burst during Shadow Frenzy.
  • No longer carry over SP between rounds.

In addition, the 2022 re-release also includes all the game's previously released DLC at no additional charge. This includes the additional characters Marie, Margaret and Tohru Adachi, alternate color palettes and accessories for the playable characters, additional Navigator voices, and the story mode from the original Persona 4 Arena game.
