Shin Megami Tensei: DeviChil is a 2000 anime adaptation of the Game Boy Color video game Devil Children Black Book and Red Book.
Directed by Yoshio Takeuchi and produced by Tokyo Movie, DeviChil aired 50 episodes from October 7, 2000, to September 29, 2001, on Fridays from 4:24 pm to 4:54 pm. It was broadcast across twenty-six different channels, including Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting (presently CBC TV) and TBS TV. Although adapted from Devil Children Black Book and Red Book, the anime tells an almost original story, but retains some settings and characters, namely the protagonists, from the video games.
DeviChil was originally planned to air only 26 episodes to accommodate for the cancellation of Monster Rancher: The Legendary Path. However, it was extended to 50 episodes due to positive reception from a wide audience, as well as the follow-up broadcasting of Kirby of the Stars.
Synopsis
10 year old Setsuna Kai arrives in a new town to live independently for family reasons. By the time he gets there, the town is hit by a downpour of rocks, and his apartment gets crushed by a boulder. Bewildered by the situation, Setsuna suddenly encounters Hiromi Kaname, a zany man who proclaims he is gathering data on Makai. Setsuna learns that Makai, the realm of Demons, has begun to affect the real world in bizarre ways. Hiromi also informs Setsuna that he is a Devil Child carrying the DeviGenome, destined to battle the Great Demon King Lucifer and thwart his plans of dominating Makai. Setsuna follows Hiromi to his laboratory, where he meets fellow Devil Child Mirai Kaname and her Demon partner Veil. Equipped with Devilisers, the Devil Children embark on adventures between worlds to save mankind and Demons alike from Lucifer's control.
