Fusion Alarm is a game mechanic for Fusion that appears in Persona 5 Royal.

Overview

During a Fusion Alarm, the activities within the Velvet Room have greater effectiveness, and the chance of a Fusion Accident greatly increases following the first action performed. Once an accident occurs, the alarm ends. Fusion Alarms may also be ended prior to an accident by speaking to the Velvet Room attendants and choosing the dialogue option to end the alarm, or by leaving the Metaverse.

Mechanics by Game

Persona 5 Royal

Fusion Alarm becomes available in Persona 5 Royal after securing the route to Kaneshiro's Treasure and attempting to leave his Palace. The earliest date this can occur is June 21st.

After the ability is unlocked, Fusion Alarm will occur randomly following repeated victories against Shadows in the Metaverse, including wins via the Instakill Confidant ability from Chariot Rank 7. As the number of victories increases, the odds of the alarm being triggered also increase. Using the Celestial Reading from the Fortune Confidant available at Rank 8 will instantly trigger a Fusion Alarm and also increase the chance of future alarms for the day. A second alarm may trigger as quickly as the first battle victory following the conclusion of the first alarm when Celestial Reading is used.

When the alarm is triggered, a flash of the Velvet Room door glowing red will show on screen. The protagonist's internal monologue will confirm the presence of an alarm when it begins and then every time he enters a Safe Room, including from a loaded save that starts in a Safe Room.

Fusion (Guillotine)

Persona created from a fusion of two Persona during Fusion Alarms have 15 extra stat points distributed randomly, the maximum possible inherited skills, and a randomized mutation of 1-3 skills. Typically the skills will change to a stronger skill within the same family (e.g., Mapsio to Psiodyne) but sometimes the skills may mutate to something altogether different. These strengthened Persona will have their name displayed in yellow, and will be guaranteed to cause a Fusion Accident if used in another action during the Fusion Alarm.

Itemization (Electric Chair)

When the Electric Chair is used during Fusion Alarm, the resulting Equipment or Skill Card will be more powerful, such as the Gun Boost skill card becoming Gun Amp instead. For a full list of Persona itemization results during alarms, see Electric Chair. If a Fusion Accident occurs, the result will vary depending on the Persona level, resistances, and whether or not it was strengthened.

Strengthening (Gallows)

While sacrificing a Persona to strengthen another typically provides a certain amount of experience and a skill inheritance, a sacrifice during the Fusion Alarm provides additional experience and a 50% possibility of inheriting a second skill. Typical experience from the gallows is doubled. The 1.5x exp bonus from using non-Treasure Personas of matching Arcana becomes 3x. The exp bonus of a non-Arcana-matching Treasure Demon increases from 3x to 5x, while the exp bonus of an Arcana-matching Treasure Demon increases from 5x to 7x.

Even during Fusion Alarm, a Persona can only be strengthened via gallows once per day, unless it is registered to the Compendium, removed from the protagonist's stock via fusion/dismissal, and then purchased again from the Compendium. It is possible for a Fusion Accident to occur when using the gallows, at which point the strengthened Persona will gain no experience and instead receive a randomized distribution of stat points based on whether normal or empowered Persona were involved.

Training (Lockdown)

Starting an Incense burn during Fusion Alarm makes the relevant stat boost doubled for the Persona in Lockdown compared to outside of the alarm. A Fusion Accident cannot occur by using Lockdown or incense.
