Design

Sandalphon's default design, first appearing in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, is that of a robotic humanoid with large white wings and metallic gold skin. He has straight silver hair, blue eyes with cross shaped pupils, and intricate silver patterning accentuating the joints of his body. Sandalphon wears a dark green robe with a red cross on the front. Due to him originally being a human, Sandalphon is depicted as either Elijah as a cyborg or Elijah piloting a mecha robot.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux

On a New route, the Protagonist can find a switch in a hidden section of the Empyrean Ascent. If he activates the switch, Sandalphon appears and announces that it has been millennia since he has ceased to function as the divine machination of song. He determines that he has been summoned to sing in the new world, but upon noticing that there is still time before the new world is created, he leaves so he can tune his voice to reach as many people as possible.

Nomenclature

Chinese translations use a phono-semantic matching of the first syllable with the character 圣／聖 (shèng, "holy; sacred"). The Simplified Chinese translation additionally matches the second syllable with the character 德 (dé, "virtue").
