Origin

Onyankopon, also known as Nyame among other names, is the supreme creator deity of the Akan peoples in West Africa.

Design

Onyankopon was designed by Masayuki Doi for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. He resembled a small bearded human wearing a sun crown and yellow robe, holding a golden staff and with two spider legs. To represent his secretive nature, designer Masayuki Doi states that his true face and eyes are underneath his robes between the two spider legs, suggesting that the head shown is the abdomen of his spider form.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

A sky god of the Ashanti people and other tribes in West Africa. One of the aliases of the supreme god Nyame, said to mean "the all-knowing and all-seeing." The god of spiders who created all things, he is said to be the god who imparts joy and motivation to live, and the one people look to in times of hardship. At first, he lived near humans, but when they struck the roots of a yam with a pestle, he migrated to the sky. Although far removed from humans, he is not considered unapproachable.
