In Buddhism, Nāḷāgiri was a drunken elephant which attacked Gautama Buddha after being unleashed by Devadatta. The Buddha subdued the elephant through kindness, and it submitted him,[1] gaining the new name Dhanapālaka, meaning "keeper of treasure".[2]
