Origin

In Buddhism, Nāḷāgiri was a drunken elephant which attacked Gautama Buddha after being unleashed by Devadatta. The Buddha subdued the elephant through kindness, and it submitted to him, gaining the new name Dhanapālaka, meaning "keeper of treasure".
