Megami Tensei I · II Shōkan-ban · Gattai-ban is a 2-disc soundtrack album for Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei and Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II on the Famicom.[1]

Disc 1 (Shōkan-ban) contains the in-game tracks composed by Tsukasa Masuko, credited as Project SATAN. Tracks 01-30 are from Megami Tensei II, while tracks 31-48 are from the first Megami Tensei. Disc 2 (Gattai-ban) contains arrangements by Ryo Yonemitsu.

Kyūyaku Megami Tensei did not receive an official soundtrack release, despite its music being newly arranged for the Super Famicom.

Booklet

The album comes with a 58 page booklet, beginning with a foreword from Tsukasa Masuko dated October 17, 1991. The booklet contains wide variety of information, including:

  • Composer comments from Masuko for the songs on both discs
  • Details about the creation of the arrangement tracks explained by Shigeki Imai, the album's director
  • Two sections with information about the creation of the original Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, one about the programming written by Kazutoshi Ueda (referred to as "Mr. Boo"), and another about the story written by Kazunari Suzuki

Comic

The soundtrack booklet features a short two-page gag comic, "Satan-sama to Yukai-na Nakama-tachi♥",[a] by Chiaki Ogishima.

In this comic, Satan holds a contest with a reward of a year's supply of magnetite. This contest's hosts are Yumiko and Rosanna, and its judges are Nakajima, Hideto, and Senda. The first contestants, a group of eight Dream Kisses, put the judges to sleep. Next, Senda transforms into his Dark Hero form and performs with a group of Metals, but is inflicted with Panic and injures himself. Loki appears, claiming to be a talent scout, and gives his business card to Yumiko. However, when Nakajima agrees to have Yumiko star in an adult video, she hits Nakajima on the head. The next contestant, Lucifer, immediately falls off the stage upon jumping. YHVH promptly says that Lucifer truly is a fallen angel, winning him the contest despite not doing a musical act.
