Masao Inaba, also known as Mark, is a playable character in Megami Ibunroku Persona.

Mark is a student at St. Hermelin High School and the "spoiled son of Inaba Dry Cleaning Owners".

Mark is the party's troublemaker and class clown, taking pride in his graffiti art around the city and generally being prone to mischief. The former had went as far as to put him at odds with the police, though he seems to know that they are only looking after him. All that being said, he also deeply cares for his friends and shows willpower in the toughest of situations, sometimes causing him to be hard-headed and leap into conflict with others (most often with Nanjo, who's pragmatic approach to most matters serves as a constant source of conflict between the two). Over the course of the game, Mark begins to mature, listening to the perspectives of others and even acting as the voice of reason. This is best demonstrated with Reiji Kido, as Mark grows to be able to handle his blunt comments and speak his mind near the end of the game should the Protagonist choose to bring Reiji with them as a party member.

Mark seems to have a crush on Maki Sonomura and often comes to visit her in the hospital before the events of Megami Ibunroku Persona. He also appears to have a somewhat strained relationship with his mother due to her coddling nature, though the two ultimately care for each other.

Persona (PlayStation Portable)	Son of the owners of Inaba Dry Cleaning in town. Thanks to his mother's pampering, he's a spoiled young man who doesn't listen to anyone. He hates that his mother still calls him by his childhood nickname of "Massy," so he makes his friends call him Mark. His desire to get away from being a mama's boy leads him to conspicuously rebel against her whenever possible.

Megami Ibunroku Persona

Before the main events of Persona, Mark makes a bet against Hidehiko Uesugi, claiming that the "Persona Game" that the latter touts will cause odd things to happen is merely superstition, with the bet's loser treating their entire friend group to a meal at peace diner. After Mark, Brown, Yuka Ayase, and Eriko Kirishima all end up forming a square and playing the game, the entire group sees an image of a sobbing little girl before becoming unconscious, receiving the same dream of Philemon.

After waking up in the school nurse's office, Mark, the Protagonist, Yukino Mayuzumi and Kei Nanjo head to Mikage Hospital in order both get checked up and visit their mutual friend, Maki Sonomura. It is through the events that occur at the hospital that the party awakens their persona, with Mark awakening Ogun. He accompanies the party up until Alaya Shrine, whence upon being told that the police office had been overrun with demons by Elly, he temporarily leaves the party to go and investigate the matter.

In the SEBEC route, after leaving the school and heading to Mikage Police Station, Mark is reunited with the party after being freed from a holding cell, where he remains with them for the rest of the game. Mark does not ever rejoin the party in the Snow Queen route; he instead manages to flee the Police Station and return with an injured Nanjo before taking off with Maki, not appearing again until the game's epilogue.

In the ending of the Snow Queen route when the Snow Queen has been defeated, Mark arrives again, explaining that the SEBEC Building's demons were too strong for him and Maki, with the latter being trapped in the school. The party proceeds to head off to save her, queuing the game's ending.

On the other hand, Mark plays a vital role in the good ending of the SEBEC route, pushing back against Nanjo's suggestion to destroy the machine keeping Maki alive and finding the brown compact that allows them to save her, triggering the final stretch of the story and allowing progression to the last few dungeons.

After the events of Persona, Mark eventually graduates, moving to New York City to become an artist. The ending also notes that his mother still calls him every once in a while.

Trivia

• Mark is one of the only playable characters in Megami Ibunroku Persona not to return in neither Persona 2 duology games, along with Yuka Ayase. This can easily be explained by the fact that he is studying overseas at the time.
• For the 30th anniversary celebration of the Persona series at Sea Paradise, Mark was paired up with a harbor seal.

Nomenclature

The surname Inaba means "leaf of the rice plant". The given name Masao means "just man".
