Iron Maiden is a Demon in Shin Megami Tensei II.

Profile

Origin

The iron maiden is a hoax of an alleged medieval torture device. It is widely believed that the device's design and history was fabricated by German archaeologist Johann Philipp Siebenkees in the late 1700s. According to Siebenkees the device was first used as a form of torture in 1515, but to date no evidence of the device's existence before the 19th century has been found.

In-game, Iron Maiden is described as a medieval English and French torture device currently under the control of Kugutsushi.[1] Its concept is tied to a reversal of the vagina dentata folklore motif, where it is said that men have a subconscious fear of a toothed vagina, a woman's "second mouth" that could bite off the penis during sexual intercourse. Iron Maiden is described as an inverted manifestation of that fear; instead of being an imagined and internal danger, Iron Maiden is a tangible device that embodies men's latent fear and turns it against them in a tasteless and grotesque way.[2]

Design

Iron Maiden is an original design that takes inspiration from real iron maiden devices. The inside of the device is hollow, big enough for a human to fit inside, and lined with spikes sharp enough to cover a person in holes.[3]
