"Dog Days" is a short story in the Digital Devil Saga series, containing elements of the Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner novels, but is ultimately not canonical to them or the games. It was initially published in the Autumn 2004 edition of Dragon Magazine's Fantasia Battle Royal. In 2005, it was rereleased by the writer, Yu Godai, on her personal So-net page[1]. In 2006, it was republished in the SFJapan.[2] In 2011, it was included in Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner: Extra Files with extra illustrations by WATOM, which were originally published in her dojinshi.[3] The final version was distributed on Hayakawa Publishing's official website in 2011.[4][5]
To date, "Dog Days" has not been officially translated to English.
Synopsis
"Dog Days" takes place after the Embryon defeat the Vanguards. A smaller tribe under the Vanguards, the Casuals, attempt to start a rebellion against the Embryon, but their leader, Zada, is captured, while the remaining Casuals are held in a warehouse. Zada is spared as Serph waits for her to willingly surrender, though Heat would rather kill her to save them the trouble.

Nomenclature
Dog days are considered to be the hottest days of summer in the northern hemisphere. Astrology historically attributed this to be due to the rise of the "Dog Star", Sirius, which was associated with, among other things, heat, drought and rabies.
