Profile

Origin

The Baykok (varyingly known as pau'guk, paguk, baguck, bakaak, or pakàk) is a figure from the traditional stories of the Anishinaabe peoples, particularly the Ojibwe/Chippewa nation. It appears as an emaciated skeletal figure with translucent skin and red glowing points for eyes that emits a shrill cry. It is said to fly through the forests of the Great Lakes targeting warriors as its prey, firing on them with invisible arrows or beating them to death with clubs before tearing their chest open and devouring their liver. Alternatively, they may sneak up on a sleeping hunter and remove a piece of their prey's stomach through an opening made in the chest, without ever waking the hunter.[1]
