"A Heartfelt Message: Part 2" is a Mission in Persona 5: The Phantom X.

Overview

After receiving a message from Chizuko Nagao, Nagisa Kamisiro goes to Inokashira Park and meets up with her and her granddaughter Manaka, who Chizuko is pushing along in a wheelchair. Upon seeing Nagisa and realizing her grandmother's friend is a boy, Manaka becomes distressed and afraid. After Chizuko reassures her that things will be okay and that he is trustworthy, she reluctantly introduces herself to Nagisa, which prompts some surprise from Chizuko.

Chizuko explains to Manaka that it was Nagisa's suggestion to play music for her. After receiving permission, Chizuko plays music on her saxophone. However, to both Nagisa and Manaka's surprise, her playing is poor. After finishing up, she apologizes for being out of shape, only to find that Manaka has burst into an embarassed laughter at how poor the performance was compared to her youth. Manaka points out that Chizuko's hands are shaking, to Nagisa's agreement and Chizuko's embarassment. In spite of this, Manaka requests an encore.

Following her second solo, Chizuko leaves to get refreshments for the trio from a nearby vending machine, leaving Manaka and Nagisa alone together. Manaka apologizes for her earlier outburst, prompting Nagisa to show his understanding. After confirming that her grandmother has already told him about her prior suicide attempt, she admits that she's terrified of strangers, especially male ones. However, she was convinced of Nagisa's good character by his kindness towards her grandmother.

Nagisa asks Manaka if he can hear more about what had happened, surprising her and prompting him to clarify that she does not have to share if she doesn't want to. Manaka, fine with telling the story, reveals that she had previously posted videos to the internet of her covering popular songs under the name Ange due to her interest in singing. After one of the artists she covered responded positively to her cover, she suddenly found herself receiving more attention, and eventually found herself lambasted by hateful comments and harassment as her popularity grew, including one who had found out where she went to school. As a result of this harassment, she withdrew herself from school and had made the decision to take her own life.

After telling the story, she admits that she feels she is a burden to her grandmother and asks that he keep the circumstances of her decision to attempt suicide a secret from her. Despite desiring a return to singing, she speaks pitifully of herself just as Chizuko returns, prompting her to return to her earlier cheerful demeanor. After having drinks together, Chizuko decides it is time to wrap things up while Manaka tells her it made her happy to hear her grandmother's saxophone playing again. Realizing that Chizuko hasn't brought up the previously suggested open mic night to her granddaughter, Nagisa suggests it to the two and Manaka realizes he is talking about a club in Kichijoji that Chizuko and her husband often visited. While Chizuko is nervous about pushing her, Nagisa offers support, encouraging Manaka who admits that she would like to try despite her fears. Chizuko hugs Manaka and promises to practice her saxophone playing and the trio part ways.

On another day, Chizuko sends Nagisa a message asking if he would be free to join the two that night, and he makes his way over to Jazz Jin. The both of them tell him about how they've been practicing and how much they've improved. After Chizuko makes sure that Manaka will be okay, an employee of the club comes over and the two take the stage. Overcoming her fear, Manaka begins to sing and Chizuko begins to play, with the two forming a pleasing melody together despite their stiffness. After returning to their table, Nagisa congratulates them on their performance while Manaka and Chizuko exchange compliments.

However, a male customer soon approaches the table and recognizes Manaka as Ange, only to reveal that he is one of her harassers. Chizuko furiously picks him up by the collar and threatens him, but Nagisa convinces her to calm down. However, the harasser refuses to back down, prompting Nagisa himself to intervene. Manaka, still terrified, affirms that she refuses to stop singing after all the effort her grandmother put in and the customer leaves. Shortly afterwards, she passes out from stress. Chizuko, shocked at this turn of affairs, expresses regret as her only desire is to protect Manaka after the loss of her parents. With some encouragement from Nagisa, she decides to return home.

Nagisa, pondering if he can change the harasser's heart in Mementos, receives a sudden message from Manaka. Realizing this is his chance, he asks her if she knows his name, and while at first she tells Nagisa his screenname Grilled_Udon_Dude, she realizes what he meant and tells him that his name is Shinta Saito, which she recognizes from the letters he sent to her fan mail service. Nagisa then heads into the Path of Aiyatsbus with the other Phantom Thieves and tracks down Saito's Shadow. Upon meeting him, his Shadow reveals his motive for harassing Manaka is jealousy towards her popularity, as he believes his singing ability to be superior. After the Phantom Thieves defeat him in battle to change his heart, he admits that he was a fan and fellow singer who had hoped to sing by her side, only to realize that her talent quickly began to surpass her own, and his jealousy spiraled out of control. His Shadow then fades away.

The next day, Nagisa meets up with the duo at Yongen-Jaya and they return to Jazz Jin together to perform again. Manaka shows her resolve to continue singing despite her fears and they once again take the stage. A small crowd forms and claps once their set is finished, and Nagisa congratulates them once more on their performance. Saito approaches the trio again, prompting Chizuko to threaten him, only for him to apologize for what he had done to Manaka and walk away. Confused at why his behavior had suddenly changed, the two decide to accept it and thank Nagisa for his support along the way.

Later, Chizuko pulls him aside on his own and thanks him with a solo for returning her passion for music to her. She expresses regret for turning to alcohol to fill what time she had left and gives him a saxophone reed as a gift, then tells him he can come see her for any of his troubles.
