Yongen-Jaya is an area of Tokyo in the Persona 5 series. The Yongen-Jaya backstreets are one of the original three traversable areas of the game and features narrow alleyways, Ren Amamiya and Futaba Sakura's residences, several shops, and multiple points of interest to explore. It is the location of one of the targets of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.

Backstreets

The backstreets can be traveled freely in the afternoons whenever time is available, and can be explored at night with free time starting on Saturday, April 23rd. Multiple shops are in the area, including directly in the Backstreets and in the Takemi Medical Clinic.

Café Leblanc

The protagonist's new home, a small café hidden in the alleyways that specializes in coffee and curry. A number of activities for Confidants and social stats are available in the restaurant. Eventually, Leblanc also becomes the planning hideout of the Phantom Thieves.

Takemi Medical Clinic

This medical clinic sits on the backstreet between Café Leblanc and Sojiro Sakura's residence. The owner and sole physician-in-residence is Tae Takemi, a patron of Leblanc and the Death Confidant. She sells medicines useful for the Metaverse after her Confidant has been established, and some rank ups provide social stat points for Guts. See the main article for the list of purchasable items.

Batting Cages

The Batting Cages services differ depending on the time of day visited.

During the day the batting cages can be used to improve Proficiency and offer prizes for good performance. Each slugger prize is awarded for hitting all five pitches and can be obtained any number of times. Each home run prize is awarded for hitting a home run and can only be obtained once.

During the night it costs ¥Yen500 to enter and can be played for an unlimited amount of pitches. If three home runs were hit a Batting Coupon is given witch can be redeemed for a free attempt during the day.

After visiting for the first time the book Batting Science becomes available at Hinokuniya Bookstore in Shinjuku. Once the book is read the protagonist can use third eye while batting. Using Third Eye slows down the pitches and has the ball glow blue when close.

Bathhouse

The bathhouse can be used in the evening to improve the Charm social stat by 3 points; on Sundays the stat bonus is increased by an additional 2 points for Charm while on rainy days the stat bonus is an additional 2 points for Guts.

Following invitation hangouts with various Confidants in Leblanc during the Summer break, an evening hangout in the Bathhouse can be chosen for additional Confidant points.

Laundromat

The laundry machines can be used, for a fee, to clean dirty equipment found in the Metaverse to obtain new armor for party members. Doing so causes time to pass.

Movie Theater

The Yongen-Jaya theater unlocks after completing Mementos Request "Who's Muscling in Yongen-Jaya". Movies are all references to real-life movies, and change every month. Watching a movie for the first time provides 5 points for one social stat.

Sojiro Sakura's Residence

The home of Café Leblanc's taciturn owner and his family. While not usually accessible, the house is visited multiple times in the Summer and later on for the Hermit Confidant.

Shops

The supermarket and Ishida's Sweet Potatoes are both open only in the daytime. Vending machines become temporarily sold out during Heat Wave or Hot Night weather warnings.

Café Leblanc

The café is closed, but the light smell of coffee indicates there are people inside. Entering the café will let the protagonist speak to cognitive versions of Ren Amamiya and other members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.

Takemi Medical Clinic

The medical clinic sits on the backstreet to the west of the Movie Theater. The owner and sole physician is Tae Takemi. She sells medicines that can be used during for Metaverse exploration. See the main article for the list of purchasable items.

Batting Cages

The batting cages can be used after beginning Motoha Arai's first Synergy event. There are two modes, Challenge and Training, and three varying speeds of pitches available: 70km/h for 500 yen, 80km/h for 800 yen, and 90km/h for 1500 yen. 5 balls are thrown in Challenge Mode, and unlimited are thrown in Training. Hitting balls in Challenge Mode rewards the player points, which can be exchanged for items. Hitting a home run in Training Mode will reward the player a ticket allowing one free play in Challenge Mode; only one free ticket is given per batting session, even if multiple home runs are hit.

Nomenclature

Yongen-Jaya's name is a reference to real-life Tokyo neighborhood of Sangen-Jaya (三軒茶屋), which is written with kanji that means 'Three tea houses' as compared to Yongen-Jaya's 'Four tea houses'. Yongen-Jaya's nickname, Yoncha, also mimics Sangenjaya being nicknamed Sancha.
