Ten years ago in 1999, Gekkoukan High School was the site of a great tragedy. An explosion happened at the school, causing many students to be absent following the accident. Ten years later every night, the school transforms into Tartarus during the Dark Hour while appearing to be a normal school during the day. The Protagonist and the rest of S.E.E.S. attends school regularly rarely missing a day. Mitsuru Kirijo is elected Student Council President by a landslide shortly after the school semester begins.
