Kintoki-Douji or Kintaro is the childhood name of Sakata no Kintoki. As a boy, he was said to have superhuman-like strength, wielded an axe, and wore a red apron with the character 金 (the "Kin" in Kintaro and Kintoki, meaning gold) on it. In some stories, he wrestles with bears.

Design

Kintoki-Douji was designed to resemble a Kintaro figurine which commonly depict Kintaro as a round boy in his red apron with a 金 symbol and his arms up, similar to the pose Kintoki-Douji has. Soejima added the blue cape to make it look more like a toy, similar to Teddie himself. The missile Kintoki-Douji carries is a pun between tomahawk axe and tomahawk missile since Kintaro carries an axe. The letters "Au" around Kintoki-Douji's stomach is the chemical symbol for gold since the legend has Kintaro wearing an apron with the character for gold on it. While some staff at Atlus complained about the puns in the design, Soejima thought those kinds of puns were fitting of Teddie due to his dialogue.[1] He imagines that Teddie is waiting for someone else to ask him about the missile so he can explain the tomahawk pun.[2]
