Satanael is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Origin

Satanael[a] is a name of the Satan in Slavonic Enoch, a Jewish text composed in the first century CE;[1][2] this text was most notably used by the Bogomils, a Christian sect in medieval Bulgaria denounced as heretical.[3] According to this text, Satanael led the fallen angels to rebel against God,[4] and Satanael is identified as the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden.[5] The narrative of Christ's temptation in the desert in the Synoptic Gospels, especially in Matthew, appears to come from a similar strain of Jewish thought.[6]

Satanael[b] is also given as the name of Satan before his fall in the Questions of Bartholomew, a Christian apocryphon. After his fall, his name became Satan as he rejected the image of God.[7]

  • According to Kazuma Kaneko, he never considered a full body design for Satanael, but if it were to create one, it would likely be wearing bondage gear similar to Azazel and Shemyaza.[8]
