- Spooky's real name, Masahiro Sakurai (桜井 雅宏), appears to be the same as the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai (桜井 政博); however, they are spelled differently in kanji. According to Kazuma Kaneko, this similarity is likely a coincidence.[3]

The name Spooky originates from a spirit in Native American mythology.[4][5]
