Overview

In some games within the Megami Tensei franchise, certain human characters can serve a near identical role within the player's party as Demons.

Mechanics by Game

Shin Megami Tensei (Series)

In the Shin Megami Tensei series, human enemies belonging to the Messian and Gaean Races can be negotiated with as if they were demons.

Recruitable humans are distinct from standard demons in two ways. The first is that these humans do not incur Magnetite costs when actively summoned within dungeons. The second is that they do not follow the standard Fusion chart and there is no predetermined result when they are used as a fusion material.

Trivia

  • The mechanical decision to have recruitable humans not incur Magnetite costs was likely inspired by it's in-universe lore. Unlike humans, demons require Magnetite as a source of energy to materialize and maintain physical bodies in the material world.[1]
