Plot:Haunted Beach Shack

This is a complete summary of the plot of Haunted Beach Shack, an event in Persona 5: The Phantom X. Each heading represents the title of the chapter that events occur in.

Main Story

Opening

This chapter has no title and is viewed automatically upon starting the event. It cannot be reviewed after being seen.

Nagisa Kamishiro receives a sudden text message from Minami Miyashita, explaining that she will be working at her father's beach shack at Shirosato Beach this summer while asking if he would be willing to help out this year as no part-time workers have applied, to which Nagisa agrees. Later that summer, Nagisa and Lufel meet up with Minami only to discover shortly after that her father has thrown his back out and will be unable to manage the shack, panicking Minami. Once Nagisa is able to calm Minami, she leaves to take care of tasks for opening the business while Lufel suggests that Nagisa ask his friends for help. Motoha Arai (who also brings in Tomoko Noge), Shun Kano, and Riko Tanemura all gladly accept while Shoki Ikenami promises to help after fulfilling prior work commitments.

Beach Shack Problems

After opening the shack successfully, Minami is surprised to see Motoha, Tomoko, Shun and Riko arrive to help with operations. After introducing themselves, the group prepares a work schedule, though Riko worries that it will not be necessary after pointing out that the beach has very few visitors. Motoha jokingly suggests the idea of a shark or a ghost scaring away visitors, only for Minami to admit that rumors that Shirosato Beach is haunted do exist and have been increasing in number in recent years, even hearing discussion about it while visting the chamber of commerce. After saying this, she remembers hearing at the chamber that a famous actor should be visiting today for a TV program and that it should increase foot traffic.

Once the rest of the group leaves to assume their posts, Riko asks Nagisa where Lufel is. After meeting with him, he reveals that his reason for coming to the beach was because he sensed powerful desires. Amused, Riko asks Lufel to help with the beach shack by serving as a mascot to draw in customers, referring to him as an "interim manager" in order to make the role sound more appealing. Lufel agrees to the role in exchange for compensation in the form of frankfurters. Shortly after a brief encounter with Minami where she thanks Nagisa for his help, he runs into Merope who tells him that she will support him as he faces the "perils of summer."

Lead Actor Shoki Ikenami

While Lufel successfully draws customers in to the beach shack, Toshiya Sumi happens to wander in and notices Nagisa working at the shack. Nagisa introduces him to Minami while he explains that he's at the beach today for work, though is looking forward to fishing afterwards. Curious about the rumors, Sumi asks if either of the two are familiar with any of the ghost stories surrounding Shirosato Beach, though while both are aware neither knows much of the details. Sumi recalls various stories, including one of a girl who drowned and now attempts to drag people under the water. Motoha, who has recently been watching scary movies, overhears and excitedly asks about the ghost stories, though admits she cannot handle truly scary horror films, preferring to watch B movies about ghosts and sharks. Sumi responds by mentioning that there is supposedly a shrine to a ghost shark nearby that he heard about from the son of the owner of another nearby beach shack.

After Sumi leaves, the remaining trio overhear nearby commotion and realize the famous actor has likely arrived, only to find that the actor is actually Shoki, who is starring in a low-budget film entitled Sharkmageddon. Upon spotting the group, he decides to say hello and explains that he is there to film a tie-in program. However, Shun notices that Shoki's fans are already leaving the beach without stopping by the beach shack, leading Shoki to ask his fans directly to visit the shack while mentioning that he will be working there later. This causes his fans to flock to Chigusa, much to Minami's relief.

Shirosato Beach in the Metaverse

Riko overhears chatter among the customers about ghost sightings, including an instance of a man who says that something pulled on his leg in an attempt to drag him underwater. Customers rapidly leave after finishing their initial order, leaving Shirosato Beach nearly deserted. Shoki enters the shack and asks for the members of the Phantom Thieves to come with him, with Tomoko and Minami offering to handle orders while demand is low. Shoki brings his friends to Lufel, who reveals that the Metaverse Navigator is picking up signs of activity based on a small collective unconscious in the area, similar to a small-scale Mementos. The group, finding the strange lack of desire to stay at the beach odd for the summer, decide to venture into the Metaverse to investigate.

Upon arrival, the Metaverse appears nearly identical to Shirosato Beach, albeit in the middle of a thunderstorm with a faint red glow. the group notices they are not wearing their Phantom Thief attire and are still wearing their beachwear, to which Lufel attributes the cognition of beachgoers in the area. Riko assures her fellow Thieves that they are still capable of using their Personas while Motoha notices a large gathering of sharks in the water near the shore. Lufel identifies the sharks as being Shadows that have taken this form due to the cognition of sharks as a summertime danger. Just then, a large group of Shadows approach the Thieves, forcing them to defend themselves. Afterwards, Lufel surmises that the shark-like Shadows are stealing the desires of beachgoers, having been attracted by the distorted desires of someone in the real world. The group decides to return from the Metaverse to investigate.

Meanwhile, Sumi strikes up a conversation with a young boy working at the beach shack neighboring Chigusa, while Minami notices and joins in to introduce herself. Sumi explains that he works at this shack owned by his parents, and the boy introduces himself as Kaito Isomura. However, after Minami explains that her father was injured and is instead running Chigusa with her friends, Kaito becomes cold and leaves without acknowledging Minami.

Spooky Sightings

At sunset, the crew at Chigusa laments that there were no customers for the rest of the day while Riko returns from investigating. Hearing that the neighboring shop is already closing for the day, the crew decide to do the same while Riko approaches Nagisa to inform him that they have something to speak about afterwards. Minami realizes that Motoha was absent and doesn't realize they are closing, only for her to come rushing out the kitchen in a panic, claiming to have seen a ghost - the bodiless floating head of a woman - while taking out trash. The two follow her outside to the neighboring beach shack where she saw the ghost and run into Kaito, who says he isn't aware of anyone with long hair in the area and describes the ghost Motoha saw, explaining the backstory behind the ghost which frightens her. As he is about to explain further, his parents call him and he leaves.

Afterwards, the members of the Phantom Thieves and Minami convene and discuss both the stories Riko heard and Motoha's ghost sighting. Riko, however, finds it odd that many of the ghost stories on the beach are older stories while it is only recently that eyewitness accounts of these ghosts have begun to appear, including the girl who grabs at the legs of swimmers only appearing in modern times. Shoki chimes in to mention that he finds that the majority of online posts of sightings occur during the summer, then completely stop even though the beach is open year-round. Riko notes that she finds it strange that locals and fishermen don't report on these sightings, only tourists, leading the group to believe that someone is intentionally spreading stories and manufacturing ghost sightings. Minami suggests returning to where Motoha saw the ghost to investigate once more, and the trio return to the site.

Paranormal Investigation

Once at the scene of Motoha's sighting, Minami presses her for more information on what exactly she saw to obtain more details and the trio search for signs matching Motoha's description. After several rounds of searching, the three of them find something that appears to be trash buried in the sand and they go to clean it up, only to discover a wig with long black hair. Minami realizes that someone used this wig to create the appearance of the decapitated ghost, and quickly deduces based on its proximity to the beach shack Kaito works at that he must be the culprit behind the sightings and rumors. She points out that despite the fact that Motoha had previously only told the crew at Chigusa about her sighting, Kaito immediately knew which of the three was the one who saw the ghost when they met him earlier, and also knew which ghost she saw. The three agree to keep the wig to catch him in the act of trying to find it the next day and resolve to confront him about his behavior.

Gone Ghost

The next morning, Minami and Nagisa see Kaito holding a toy shark fin and attempt to subtly scold him since it could scare beachgoers, only for him to immediately accuse them of stealing the wig, confirming his culpability. Minami scolds him for what he has done, only for him to snap at them for not understanding him, throw the shark fin on the ground and run off. Minami gives chase, while Lufel, who was watching from the side, confirms that Kaito's desires have been distorted. The Phantom Thieves resolve to enter Mementos to confront his Shadow, who is spouting a desire for the beach and his parent's shop to disappear.

Following the battle, in the real world, Minami finds Kaito curled up next to his parent's beach shack while Sumi sits next to him. Sumi asks her to be gentle, as he was crying only moments before, and she approaches him to ask him about his feelings to understand why he didn't want people to visit the beach anymore. At the same time, Kaito's Shadow explains the same to the Phantom Thieves, telling the story of his family's financial situation requiring that the whole family put their all into work during the summer. He admits that he doesn't hate his parents, helping them, or the beach, but feels resentment that he has no opportunity to spend his summer with friends or enjoying it with his family, as he spends the entire summer vacation working on the beach.

Back in the real world, he tells Minami he feels helpless that he can't tell his parents about his feelings, and Sumi assures him that it's okay to make mistakes and that his efforts show how much this matters to him, with Minami agreeing. Sitting next to him, Minami tells Kaito the story of her own feeling of helplessness, believing she had to abandon her dream of becoming a nurse in order to help her ailing father, saying she understands how he feels. At the same time, Shadow Kaito expresses his feeling of helplessness to the Phantom Thieves as they scold him for putting others in danger, only to be surprised when they offer to help him find a solution. His Shadow then resolves to talk to his parents and returns to Kaito while Lufel confirms that this should have an effect on the desires of the beachgoers in the real world.

With Minami and Nagisa by his side, Kaito admits what he did to his parents, who are shocked, but also feel ashamed at how much pressure they were putting on him. Sumi approaches and asks his father if they could take a break from the beach shack for a bit, which he agrees with to Kaito's surprise. Explaining that Shoki's visit earned them enough money to spend some time away from the beach shack, they decide to spend time with Kaito and give him the choice of what to do with the free time they now have. Sumi takes the opportunity to ask Kaito's father if he can use the beach shack's rental boat, causing him to laugh under the assumption that this was his plan all along. Kaito thanks Minami for giving him the courage to create this opportunity and they all return to Chigusa together.

Shark Infested Waters

Back at Chigusa, the group all apologize to Tomoko for leaving her to open the beach shack alone, though they are impressed at her ability to handle all facets of the operation single-handedly. Finding that Chigusa is busy now that word has spread of Shoki's employment at the shop and doubly so due to the closure of the neighboring beach shack, the group happily notices the returning desires of the beachgoers. Sumi comes over to visit and meets Shoki, saying that he saw a screening of Sharkmageddon and enjoyed it, to Shoki's delight. He then shows a photo showing that he recently caught a shark near the waters of Shirosato Beach, but released it, surprising the crew. Before leaving, he gives the crew Kaito's toy shark fin, who wanted to give it to the group as a memento.

Miyu, Moving Out!

Miyu Sahara appears on the beach looking for Nagisa, expecting him to be alone, only to watch Motoha rush over thanking Nagisa for covering her shift while she watches the premiere of Sharkmageddon. Tomoko, Riko and Minami then appear, shocking her and leading her to run up to Nagisa dumbfounded. However, upon learning about the situation Chigusa has found itself in, she offers to help out at the beach shack as well, conveniently just as Minami was looking into hiring an additional staff member. During discussion about onboarding, Miyu asks if they've heard of a ghost story she heard while on the train ride over, which leads to Motoha offering to fill her in on the goings-on regarding the "ghost" as she shows her around the workplace.

Setting Sail

Having heard about Kaito, Miyu sounds relieved to hear that the previous trouble had all worked out; however, she is left confused, as the ghost story she heard was different from the ones her coworkers are describing. After discussing various stories surrounding the beach, Nagisa mentions a story about a ghostly shark, which Miyu immediately recalls as the one she had heard. She recalls the detail that those who bleed in the water will be possessed by the shark, leading to hallucinations of sharks in various places, including at home or in the streets. Motoha, overhearing, rushes over thinking the crew is describing the plot of Sharkmageddon, and is confused to hear they aren't as their description matches a synopsis of the film.

Shoki comes over just then and confirms that Miyu's description is a scene in the movie, leading the group to conclude that she misunderstood chatter about the film as rumors. However, Shoki admits that this element was present in the original novel, which itself is based on actual legends surrounding Shirosato Beach, and therefore may come from genuine folklore. Shoki then remembers his initial reason for stopping by and informs the group that Kaito's father has something to tell them.

After confirming that Kaito is enjoying his summer vacation, he offers to take the crew out on his rental boat, giving Shun the idea to take the boat out to fish in order to serve fresh fish at the beach shack. After agreeing to the idea with approval from Kaito's father who will use his membership of the Fishermen's Co-op to ensure Chigusa is cleared for approval, the crew decides to send a group out on the boat to go fishing.

The Infamous Shark

After their boat trip, Miyu is overjoyed to have had the experience to go out at sea. The two run into Tomoko and Minami who are currently experiencing a rush of new customers, a college club that came to Shirosato Beach to investigate the ghost stories. Among the crowd is drunk man who decides to try dipping an open wound in the water to verify if the legend of the ghost shark is true, worrying Minami. She decides to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get into danger.

Meanwhile, Miyu is talking with Riko and asks if she can call her her big sister, flustering Riko. Shun is weeping with joy at the sight of the fresh fish, and Sumi walks over after hearing the commotion to order his usual tea. While discussing going out fishing again soon, the group overhears a scream which Miyu recognizes as the drunk man from earlier. At Minami's suggestion, the crew decide to move him to safety while waiting for medical professionals when he suddenly awakes muttering about sharks. Before she can ask more, Minami shrieks as she notices an actual shark is swimming just offshore, which Sumi helps to capture and identifies as a banded houndshark. He confirms that this variety of shark is harmless to humans, but realizes this means the beach's shark barrier must have a hole. He leaves to inform the Fishermen's Co-op while Miyu disperses a crowd forming around the shark.

Sharkmentos

Nagisa, Shoki, Minami, Motoha and Sumi find some time to discuss the shark sighting during the ensuing rush to Chigusa after Miyu's diversion, having heard that the Fishermen's Co-op failed to find any damage to the shark barrier, leading to confusion as to how the shark may have appeared. Riko shows the group a video of a group of men walking the beach at night that she found on Divine Justice that shows the men committing the crime, with Shoki and Motoha realizing that the same thing happens at the beginning of Sharkmageddon.

Miyu rushes over, explaining that according to customers, the situation with the video has gotten out of control, with calls for the beach to be shut down and rumors that the film crew for Sharkmageddon released it as a publicity stunt. Sumi suggests that they show the video to the Chamber of Commerce to have them file a police report and that Shoki inform the director of Sharkmageddon about the situation. He leaves to talk to Kaito's father about the situation, while Riko, Minami and Shoki return to work.

Lufel then flies over and discusses with Nagisa and Motoha about distorted desires he is sensing, with the fear of the sharks resembling the panic over ghosts. Riko walks over and reminds the group to be quiet about affairs to do with the Phantom Thieves and continues the discussion over text. Entering the Metaverse, the group finds that the Shadow activity has risen to previous levels, with shark-like shadows flying through the sky and swimming in the sand. Motoha suggests that this might be because unlike before, the Shadows represent the fear of sharks themselves rather than a general fear of the ocean, leading Lufel to conclude that Shirosato Beach is now closer to a hub for shark-based desires among the public, christening it Sharkmentos. After an attack from a Shadow, the Thieves return to the real world and resolve to take care of the Shadows for the good of the beach.

The Ghost Shark of Shirosato Beach

While the Thieves are in the Metaverse handling Shadows, Miyu, Tomoko and Minami are discussing the rumors about the sharks in Shirosato Beach. According to Miyu, more people are finding out that the shark was released by a Menace and that both the official Sharkmageddon account and the original novel's author have released a statement. She is, however, frustrated about more odd rumors and the fact that calls for the beach to close haven't stopped.

Just then, Kaito appears to inform the crew at Chigusa about a meeting being held at his parent's beach shack among the Chamber of Commerce, who requested that Minami and Nagisa be present. Minami suggests bringing Miyu along as she has been keeping up with the rumors surrounding the beach, and the three of them return with Kaito for the meeting. However, upon arriving, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce is arguing with Kaito's father about a curse. Sumi is there and offers to explain the situation, telling the story of a nearby shrine dedicated to a shark spirit that belonged to the gods but was accidentally killed by a local fisherman. The shark's spirit cursed the area and caused disaster, and to appease the spirit created the shrine, where the hook that caught the shark was housed. However, the hook had been stolen earlier that year, and the chairman believes that the shark's spirit is causing disaster around the beach once more.

Kaito reveals that the hook was stolen by a Menace, who posted a video of his actions, including losing the hook in the sea, which the chairman decided was too expensive to find and arranged promotions with Sharkmageddon to attract business. Sumi scolds him for his inaction, and the chairman ponders if he should just give up and close the beach. Nagisa realizes his desires must have been stolen. At that time, Riko appears acting strangely and suggests that they search for the fish hook, leading Miyu to think that maybe they can use the scenery in the video to find where the hook was lost. After deciding to do so, they turn to find that Riko has disappeared and return to the beach shack, confused but assuming that she simply went back as well.

Shadow Shark!

By sunset the next day, the search effort for the fish hook was successful, but belief in the curse of the beach continues to rise as many still believe it is missing. Lufel argues that the initial announcement was not enough, and so Nagisa and Shoki speak with Sumi about how to spread the word about the hook being found. He suggests using the popularity of Sharkmageddon to spread the word by livestreaming the hook's return to the shrine as a promotional event. After agreeing to the idea, the members of the Thieves convene behind Chigusa to enter the Metaverse and handle more Shadows, only to find that the sharks have disappeared from the sand and skies and returned to the water. Both Riko and Lufel find this suspicious as the general public is currently not aware of the hook's return, so belief in the curse has not dissipated.

At that time, Shun notices a massive shark fin approaching. The Shadow emerges, revealing itself as a giant shark with legs that Lufel surmises represents a purer vision of the human cognition of a shark as a result of the Thieves' efforts to sway the public; however, the Shadow is ultimately an amalgamate of the Shadows that had gathered within Sharkmentos previously. They then engage the Shadow in battle.

Sharkmageddon Premiere

Upon defeating the Shadow, the group return to the real world to find the director of Sharkmageddon waiting for them. Having heard that the crew of Chigusa found the fish hook, he asks to do an interview with Minami as part of the broadcast, which Miyu excitedly says could help promote the beach shack. Following the interview, everyone hopes that this will put the rumors to rest.

The End...?

Chigusa is experiencing another busy day after the success of the live broadcast, with rumors about the beach having died down. Shoki reports that Sharkmageddon is doing well, with more theaters picking up the film and talks of a potential sequel after its success, while the original novel is picking up in popularity. Sumi and Kaito come by to eat at Chigusa together, with Sumi offering to pay thanks to a recent windfall. Nagisa passes Merope, who congratulates him on his successes this summer before succumbing to brain freeze from a shaved ice. Afterwards, Minami announces that Chigusa has met its sales goal for the year early. Miyu thanks Riko for giving them the idea to search for the hook themselves, to her confusion, as she had never done such a thing and was at the shop at that time, not even being aware of the situation with the fish hook until later. Lufel mentions to Nagisa that the trio appeared to be staring out at sea for no reason until suddenly becoming excited, causing him to wonder if they had seen one of the beach's rumored ghosts. The staff then decide to move on and go on break to enjoy their summer on the beach together.

Side Story

The side stories are made up of short scenes depicting moments at the beach shack and are not part of the main story.

Shark Specialties

Because the beach has few visitors, Minami decides to try to attract customers by capitalizing on Shoki's new film, Sharkmageddon. Using some shark fillets supplied by a vendor, she creates a test dish alongside Nagisa. The final result is unsatisfying, and Minami resolves to try her best to focus on providing good service instead.

Shirosato Gourmet

Shun is relaxing on the beachside pondering what to do, as the lack of customers means more downtime than he expected. Nagisa suggests grabbing food, but Shun replies that he has already eaten from all of the nearby ramen shops, prompting surprise from a nearby Lufel. After some banter, Lufel suggests promoting an attraction of some kind, and the group becomes stuck on the idea of a food festival. However, Lufel and Shun disagree on what kind of food, as Lufel demands meat while Shun prefers ramen. The bickering is interrupted by Motoha who comes by wondering where the two are as their breaktime is over.

Riko's Business Plan

Riko invites Nagisa to join her for a discussion on her next break in order to brainstorm ideas for improvements to the beach shack. As part of this plan, she intends to observe other beach shacks in the area as market research. At the neighboring beach shack, she notices they have a signature specialty of fish dishes, but finds that it would be impractical to replicate on a short timescale. Looking closer at the impressive signage, she decides it would be better to try to improve the shack's signage and returns to Minami to propose the idea. Once Minami agrees, the three of them begin work on updated signs together.

Beach Shack Business Plan

Nagisa notices a beachgoer suffering from heat stroke and calls for Minami. The two of them carry him inside to Chigusa and have him lie down and discuss what to do next, with Minami stating that the case is mild and shouldn't require hospitalization. She thanks Nagisa for his support and asks him to keep an eye on the shop while she makes sure the patient remains in good health.

Speaking of Shark Movies

Minami, Motoha, Nagisa and Tomoko are having a discussion about Shoki, with Minami finding it impressive that the group are friends with a famous actor. After some discussion, Motoha shares her excitement for his upcoming Sharkmageddon film. While expressing her general cowardice with horror movies, especially those with ghosts, she learns that the film involves a ghostly shark and is relieved to hear that it is not a human ghost. After some further discussion about films, Tomoko looks up a list of movies, leading to Motoha's delighted discovery that a streaming service has a shark-themed B movie titled Bureau Shark about a shark that can leap out of drawers, to Tomoko's confusion. The group decide to watch a shark movie after dinner as a result.

Spooky Seaside Stories

Shun and Nagisa run into Sumi, who had just finished up with work collecting ghost stories in the area. Sumi begins telling stories he heard, such as a ghostly child grabbing a swimming beachgoer's ankle and the appearance of a decapitated but otherwise unharmed corpse mysteriously washing ashore and later being buried at a nearby temple, with the bodyless head appearing as an apparition searching for its body. Sumi decides to offer a deal to the two, encouraging them to find a ghost story he hasn't heard with the reward of a meal fully paid by himself.

After some searching around and hearing various repeats of Sumi's stories, they run into a beachgoer who tells a new story of a samurai in armor suddenly appearing after hearing a clanking sound along the shore. They return to him and share it, only to find it was a story Sumi had told that was being spread as a true local legend rather than a piece of fiction. Satisfied that he was able to learn something about how rumors spread, he decides to treat the duo to a meal regardless.

Spatula Superstar

While serving customers, Motoha notices that many people have been ordering yakisoba today, and the customers she is waiting on tell her that the smell of the yakisoba sauce was what enticed them to come visit the beach shack. Suddenly, a variety of orders come in and Tomoko asks for Motoha to help her at the grill while Nagisa handles the drinks. Motoha watches in awe as Tomoko effortlessly handles the orders, only to realize that she is out of yakisoba sauce while a line forms. Nagisa heads out and asks for a place to find sauce, but ultimately is forced to ask Kaito's father, who is willing to share some of his stock in exchange for having Tomoko teach some of her techniques to him later. After returning and handling the line, Tomoko discovers that people are praising her work and even calling her a "yakisoba goddess", flustering her.

Leading Actor's Leading Worries

While taking orders, Shoki receives a great deal of attention, with some of his fans even specifically requesting that he wait on them. At that point, his break time comes up and he heads out to the beach with Nagisa and admits that the experience is nerve-wracking, although he wants to try his best for the benefit of both his upcoming film Sharkmageddon and Chigusa. Curious, Nagisa asks him for details on Sharkmageddon, with Shoki describing it as a cross between a ghost story at sea and a killer shark film.

While describing the film's original source material, which was written by Sumi (unbeknownst to Shoki, as Sumi utilizes a pen name), he talks about how the film feels like it isn't adapting the material well, transforming a story about human lives into a black comedy horror film. He worries that the original author is hurt by the transformation as he has never visited the set. Just then, Sumi appears and tells him that a film that is the same as its source material isn't always good, and encourages him to focus on the quality of the film itself, invigorating Shoki, who is still unaware that he has just met the author of the original book. The two return to the beach shack in high spirits.

Promoting the Beach Shack

Motoha, Nagisa and Lufel are eating a meal on a break during a dead period, with Motoha suggesting that she should go up to people and have people smell her yakisoba; this is shot down by Lufel. Nagisa suggests social media promotion, which both Lufel and Motoha like as an idea. The three of them work together to take photos of the menu items to post to social media, though they express concern that the photos aren't enticing enough. The three settle on having Lufel pose next to the food for added appeal and continue working through the menu.

Yearning for Love

Nagisa, Shoki, and Lufel find Shun sighing at the shore of the beach and decide to ask him if something is wrong. Based on his responses, the group ask if he's in love, and he responds in anguish that he may be. The group, unsure what to do, decide to help Shun with his efforts. However, after asking further, it turns out that he is merely upset over failing to win a rock lobster at a shooting gallery that he wanted to use as an ingredient for ramen, one that is normally outside of his price range. Shocked, the group still want to help and offer to win it for him, eventually succeeding.

Difficult Customers

During a busy moment at Chigusa, a customer approaches, leading Minami to come up to him and tell him that there will be a wait. To her surprise, the customer begins making advances on her, leading Riko to intervene. The customer then begins making advances on Riko, including offering to pay her to spend the night with him. Nagisa rushes over and intervenes once more, demanding that the customer leave immediately and intimidating him when he refuses until he finally leaves. Tomoko and Motoha rush over to make sure everyone is okay, and Nagisa discovers this is not the first similar incident as Chigusa, with Riko having handled most of the other instances. Riko admits to Nagisa she is trying to handle it all herself while her assures her that he'll help any time she needs it. Riko leaves to reorganize the schedule to ensure more people are available to handle such incidents while Nagisa works her shift.

Merope by the Sea

Merope and Nagisa meet at the beach, leading to her offering him applause for restoring the desires of the beachgoers and for encouraging the pursuit of desire, pointing to examples such as Shoki's desire for a successful film and Minami's desire for Chigusa to do well. However, she tells him that their work is not yet over, as the beach has even more potential to attract desire. She asks for him to investigate further ways to induce desire in people alongside her, which he realizes is a thinly-veiled excuse for her to spend time on the beach, and the two leave to take on various beachside activites.

Seaside Stories

Seaside Stories were added as part of the second half of Haunted Beach Shack and were tied to the Crewmates that can be used (with the exception of Merope) in Sea Fishing Cruise.

Motoha

Chapter 1

During a fishing trip, Motoha begins to excitedly talk with Nagisa about other beachside activities she would like to participate in, such as banana boating and volleyball. Upon returning to shore, they head to a rental shop and spot a pair of water guns to rent out. Afterwards, the two engage in a water gun fight.

Chapter 2

Later on, after taking out the trash to finish out their workday, the two spot an impressively large sandcastle and get the idea to make sandcastles of their own, which turn out well.

Chapter 3

Nagisa comes across Motoha sitting near Chigusa late at night, unable to sleep and stargazing to pass the time. She muses on the peacefulness of the night compared to the day and has the idea to check on the sandcastles they built earlier. Upon arrival, they find that they haven't been washed away and decide to add to them. Nagisa notices her blue nail polish, which she mentions was picked out to match her swimsuit by Riko and Tomoko, and the two return to Chigusa after a fulfilling day.

Shun

Chapter 1

Motoha is discussing a shark film titled Shark to the Future with Shun, describing how the megalodon in the film can use laser beams and fly. Shun is dumbfounded by this and has difficulty understanding the film's appeal while Motoha describes the film's conclusion, which Shun admits does sound interesting. Ultimately, however, he is unable to move past the nature of the sharks in the film.

Chapter 2

Nagisa finds Shun holding a lobster in his hand, pondering the idea of what a shark crossed over with various things he's seen that day would look like after his earlier conversation with Motoha. She then comes over with Lufel on her head and hears about what is on Shun's mind and has the idea to hold a competition amongst themselves for who can come up with the best pitch for a shark movie based on things found around Shirosato Beach. Shun, Motoha and Lufel agree and nominate Nagisa as the judge.

Chapter 3

After reconvening, the three of them begin to share their pitches to Nagisa, with Shun describing a story of a "lobster shark" that has pincers it uses to crush things and a chef who goes to slay it with a kitchen knife. Motoha follows up with a film about revenge against sharks, with the protagonist of the film turning the tables on the killer sharks by planning to catch and eat them. Finally, Lufel talks about a film he has named "Yakitori Shark" where sharks grow wings and humans are unsure if they should be hunted like fish or birds, eventually deciding to throw spears that double as skewers for roasting at the sharks. After Nagisa decides on his favorite, the three of them realize all of their tales involved food and decide they must be hungry, and thus make plans to return to Chigusa to eat.

Miyu

Chapter 1

Miyu is feeling jealous and frustrated that Nagisa has so many female friends, and resolves to spend the remainder of the day with him.

Chapter 2

Miyu asks for Nagisa's opinion on her swimsuit, mentioning that she had been saving up for it in order to catch his eye. The two take photographs together and make plans to take more in different scenery.

Chapter 3

The two spend their break together. Afterwards, Miyu remarks that this has been the best summer of her life, and the two continue to spend time together until the start of their next shift.

Riko

Chapter 1

Nagisa comes across Riko on the phone with her father, mentioning that he's been calling more often lately. While thankful, she mentions that her father has also been more worried about her, while also curious about who she's spending time with.

Chapter 2

Riko is making yakisoba after closing time in the kitchen, to Nagisa's confusion, leading her to admit that she was practicing her cooking. She admits that despite initial confidence, she has very little experience with cooking because of her sheltered lifestyle and is dissatisfied with her ability. Nagisa offers to help her improve by offering critique on the flavor and the two cook in the kitchen together until going home.

Chapter 3

Riko cooks an order of yakisoba for a customer, who is very satisfied with it, even considering getting seconds. She thanks Nagisa for helping her practice and he suggests that she make some for her father. Riko is hesitant, but decides it would be worthwhile to try, and the two make plans to practice making yakisoba in a home kitche at his house.

Tomoko

Chapter 1

Tomoko is excitedly telling Nagisa about how happy she is to have experienced this summer, indulging in the praise she's been receiving both in person and from customer reviews. The two get the idea to promote the beach shack using her popularity and decide to brainstorm ideas.

Chapter 2

Later, the two meet and Nagisa admits he has no ideas as of yet. Tomoko shows him videos that people have taken of her working and talks about how since her name isn't attached to the videos, people are coming up with titles, and considers the idea of creating an official title to use with a hashtag. As she sees more names, however, she decides that enough publicity is being generated even without an official name, and decides to focus on continuing to do a good job.

Chapter 3

Tomoko is continuing to get plenty of attention and a man recognizes her and asks her to come with him. Tomoko is scared and Nagisa steps in, only for the man to apologize for his brashness and offer Tomoko a job at his yakisoba shop in Tokyo. After getting his contact information, Tomoko recovers from her initial shock and thanks Nagisa for his help by offering to buy him lunch.

Minami

Chapter 1

Minami has just received a call from her father and is telling Nagisa that he's making a recovery. She thanks him for making this summer season a success and jokes that he and his friends should work at their izakaya in Zoshigaya as well. Afterwards, she laments that she still has summer homework to do and asks if he would be willing to help her get through it once she has time to start on it.

Chapter 2

Later when the two are on break, they decide to start taking care of some of Minami's homework. Just then, a large group of Shoki's fans appear, leading to a sudden rush at Chigusa. Minami offers to help, feeling guilty about making others handle the rush at her own beach shack, leading Nagisa to help as well. After the busy period ends, Minami is feeling too tired to start work on her homework and Nagisa suggests trying again later. She asks Nagisa to tag along with her next time they're on break.

Chapter 3

On their next break, Minami and Nagisa are sitting on a beach mat staring at the sea. She is unsure where to start studying for her homework, but has the idea to study where they are already sitting. Minami leaves to get her homework and some shaved ice as a refreshment and the two spend their break working on it together.

Sumi

Chapter 1

Sumi and Nagisa are standing on the beach relaxing when Sumi spots something out at sea and tries to point it out to his friend. However, a pair of women appear and start flirting with Sumi, who rejects their advances in favor of spending time with Nagisa, finding time with a friend to be more important. Sumi tries to remember what they were talking about, but cannot remember, and so the two make more idle conversation.

Chapter 2

Nagisa runs into Sumi who is staring into the ocean again and claiming he hears a voice coming from offshore. He explains that the voice is coming from the same place he had pointed out earlier, although he can't see anything this time. Nagisa, who is unable to hear the voice, is confused when Sumi explains he's been able to hear voices in places like shrines and temples since his childhood that call out to him, although he doesn't listen. He nonchalantly moves on and decides to go fishing with Nagisa.

Chapter 3

Sumi admits that he doesn't typically visit the beach, only making this trip because one of his novels is being adapted to film and is excited to meet fans of his work, who he normally can't interact with as he works at home. He admits that he's also been having more fun than expected and would have left already if not for Nagisa and his friends. Just then, his editor appears, having traveled to Shirosato Beach to confront Sumi about spending time away from work. Sumi then claims that he's been doing research and therefore has been working this whole time, asking Nagisa for help, who has nothing to say. Sumi then runs off while being chased by his editor.

Shoki

Chapter 1

Shoki is filming a promotional video for Sharkmageddon, uttering the film's tagline, "it's the curse of the shark!", when Nagisa stops by and notices. Shoki explains the tagline to him and goes to return to the beach shack, only to step on a seashell, leading Nagisa to tease that it was "the curse of the shark." Shoki gets the idea to post humorous videos of similar occurences blaming mundane inconveniences on the "curse of the shark" as a marketing tactic and recruits Nagisa to help him with the idea.

Chapter 2

At break time, Shoki wants to spend time having fun with Nagisa and excitedly lists off activities like building sandcastles or playing volleyball. Slightly put off by Shoki's sudden enthusiasm, Nagisa asks him to calm down and he apologizes, explaining that this is his first time getting to enjoy himself on the beach with his friends and wants to make the most of it. As they are about to leave, however, Shoki is approached by fans, leading to him spending his break speaking with them, which Nagisa jokingly attributes once more to the "curse of the shark."

Chapter 3

Shoki and Nagisa are talking together on the beach under the moonlight, with Shoki lamenting that the crowds he draws make the work day busier and make it harder to spend time with his friends on his breaks. Nagisa, yet again calling it the "curse of the shark," amuses Shoki, who is glad to see that the tagline left a strong impression on him. Seeing that he still wants to spend time with his friends, however, Nagisa suggests lighting fireworks together, and he enjoys a night with Shoki and his friends.

Merope

Chapter 1

Merope thanks Nagisa for his hard work restoring desires to the beach and offers to share things she has learned while researching beach shacks, including the concept of a collaboration café. She explains that Naruru should be at such a beach shack on Shirosato Beach, but cannot find it. Nagisa suggests that it might be at a further location on the beach, surprising Merope who had not considered the possibility that there could be multiple congregations on the same beach. She then leaves to go find where the Cat's Claw collaboration is taking place.

Chapter 2

After returning from the collaboration café, Merope shares her experience with Nagisa, describing it in meticulous detail and expressing dissatisfaction with the inability to try the entirety of the menu due an ordering limit that was placed. She then suggests the possibility of a collaboration café held at Chigusa, planning to purchase the intellectual property rights in order to hold her ideal collaboration. Nagisa, however, retorts that it is not within Chigusa's budget, and Merope leaves, dejected.

Chapter 3

Merope returns with the idea to instead host a collaboration café themed around Nagisa himself in order to avoid rights issues. Nagisa, flustered, rejects the idea, and while disappointed, Merope respects his unwillingness to participate in her scheme. However, she also refuses to give up on her idea and begins to make plans to host such an event within Tokyo, and Nagisa attempts to convince her to abandon her ambition.
