The Metaverse Navigator as seen on Joker's phone.

The Metaverse Navigator (often shortened to MetaNav) is an entity in Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, and is a key component to its story.

Description

The MetaNav is an app with a stylized icon of a red eye with a star shaped pupil and black spikes protruding from behind. The app is what allows the Phantom Thieves (excluding Morgana) to access the Metaverse.

Game Appearances

Persona 5

The MetaNav first appears upon Joker's arrival to Shibuya. Joker, wandering through the Shibuya Scramble, hears a noise coming from his phone, only to find the MetaNav obstructing his screen. In an attempt to get rid of the app Joker inadvertently activates the MetaNav, seemingly causing time to stop around him. After seeing a fiery figure in the middle of the crossing, time resumes, and Joker proceeds to delete the app.

The MetaNav is similar to a GPS, albeit a rudimentary one. In order to travel into the Metaverse, three parameters must be entered:

  1. Individual: A person with distorted desires; i.e Suguru Kamoshida
  2. Location: The real world location where the distortion is rooted; i.e. Shujin Academy
  3. Distortion: The form the location above takes within the Metaverse; i.e. Castle
    1. Note: There is a certain radius around the location that actually changes, anywhere not affected by the distortion remains identical to the surroundings from the real world.

Upon entering the required information, anybody within a short radius of the person who entered the information will be transported to the Metaverse and into the specified individual's Palace. The only exception to this is for Mementos, which does not need an individual and where a distortion does not apply whatsoever (Simply requiring just "Mementos" in the 2nd parameter). However, an individual's Shadow will not appear unless entered into navigation when travelling to Mementos, and anyone without a distorted Shadow cannot appear in general. Upon travel to a Palace, the parameters are automatically saved to a list for easier access. This likewise applies for distorted Shadows in Mementos, allowing for multiple Shadows to be found in one excursion into Mementos.

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Strikers

The Meta-Nav does not appear in Persona 5 Strikers, instead being replaced by EMMA.

Persona 5: The Phantom X

Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth

After bursting into Kamo City, the Meta-Nav app on all of the team's phones show an error screen, indicating that the area they entered is not part of the Metaverse.
