The Phantom Society is a group in the Devil Summoner series.
Profile
The Phantom Society is a secret society of Devil Summoners that has covertly directed the course of human history for thousands of years. The organization was founded by the creator of human civilization, an entity known as the Great One, who the Phantom Society worships the Great One as a deity. The primary objective of the group is to cultivate high-quality human souls in preparation for the Great One's return to Earth every 15,000 years.[1][2][3][4]
The organization of the Phantom Society has a hierarchical structure with much of its manpower comprised of freelance Summoners, who are required to complete all contracts in order to maximize confidentiality.[5][6] Only the high-ranking Summoners directly working under the executives are aware of their true identities as Demons.[7] Orders from the executive members of Phantom are distributed through an internet forum exclusive to Devil Summoners, known as Summoner Net.[8]

- While the Phantom Society is not referenced by name in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, according to Shogo Isogai, the name was hinted at through the name of a yakuza boss character in the game.[9]
- There are no public records of the Phantom Society's existence, but the organization has been involved with every major milestone of human society throughout history. Phantom is so intertwined with the development of humanity that they are said to have directly influenced the religion and history of many cultures around the world.[10][11]
- The Phantom Society increased their activities in Amami City after their failure in Hirasaki, due to their fear that a societal collapse was imminent and they will no longer be able to harvest the souls of mankind.[12][13]
- The executives of the Phantom Society consider humanity livestock.[13]
- In Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, low ranking Summoners working for Phantom were not aware of their plans to offer the souls of mankind to the Great One.[7]
- Dr. Thrill is implied to have been working for the Phantom Society during the events of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner.[15]
