Origin

According to the Tale of Bygone Years (also known as the Primary Chronicle), the people of Kyiv worshiped a deity known as Mokosh during the reign of Vladimir the Great. Mokosh, along with other deities, is said to have had an idol on the spot where a church dedicated to St. Basil stood at the time the work was written.
